Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Glitch in the Coronation

The sky over Eldoria was the color of a bruised lung.

Ever since the Collector had dissolved into golden static, the sun hadn't quite risen. It hung behind a layer of flickering, pixelated clouds that occasionally stuttered, revealing a glimpse of a cold, mathematical void behind the blue. The "Hard Mode" was no longer a hidden setting; it was tearing the wallpaper off reality.

Kaelen stood on the Royal Balcony, draped in a mantle of shadow-weave silk. Below him, tens of thousands of citizens had gathered in the Great Square. They weren't cheering. They were kneeling in a silence so profound it felt like a collective breath held in a tomb.

[System Notification: Reality Integrity: 88%.]

[Warning: Local 'Logic-Loops' detected in the 'Market District'.]

[Passive Harvest: 'Existential Dread'... +1,200 Points/Hour.]

"They're afraid, Kaelen," Elara whispered, standing just behind him. She was holding a silver tray with the Black Seal resting upon it. Her eyes kept darting to the sky, where a flock of birds was currently frozen mid-flight, suspended like stone carvings in the air. "They can feel the world breaking."

"Let them feel it," Kaelen said, his voice a low, resonant hum. He didn't look at the crowd; he was looking at the 'Life-Threads' of the city. They were fraying, turning from vibrant white to a sickly, vibrating violet. "Fear is the only anchor they have left. If they stop being afraid, they'll realize that the ground beneath their feet is just a string of numbers."

He reached down and picked up the Black Seal. As his fingers touched the obsidian, a spark of golden 'Administrator Essence' leapt from his skin into the ring.

[Skill Active: 'Architect's Decree' (S-Rank Amplification).]

Kaelen stepped to the edge of the balcony. He didn't need a magical amplifier. His voice, infused with the [Code-Breaker's Touch], bypassed the ears of the crowd and resonated directly in their minds.

"People of Eldoria!" Kaelen cried. "The gods you worshipped were parasites! The 'Light' you followed was a leash! You see the sky breaking? That is the old world dying! The Administrators have abandoned their farm, but I... I have remained to claim the harvest!"

He raised the Black Seal high. A pillar of purple fire erupted from the palace spire, piercing the stuttering clouds.

"I am your Regent! I am your Shield! And today, I declare the birth of the Hollow Kingdom!"

[System Notification: DOMAIN EXPANSION - 'The Hollow Kingdom' (Stage 1).]

[Cost: 10,000 Despair Points.]

[Effect: The City of Eldoria is now 'Off-Grid'. The Administrators cannot 'Reboot' this area.]

The square erupted—not in cheers, but in a wave of weeping and prayer. The Despair Points spiked so hard the System interface in Kaelen's mind began to lag.

[Yield: 15,000 Points!]

[Current Balance: 17,780.]

Suddenly, a "Glitch" manifested in the front row of the crowd. A young man, barely twenty, wearing the ragged tunic of a blacksmith's apprentice, began to glow with a blinding, neon-green light. His body stretched and warped, his limbs lengthening into jagged, geometric shapes.

"Help... me..." the boy gasped, his voice sounding like a corrupted audio file. "The... the Quest... it's... it's looping..."

Above the boy's head, a Floating Icon appeared. It was a golden exclamation point—the mark of a 'Hero Quest'—but it was flickering red.

[System Warning: 'Anomaly' Detected.]

[Entity: 'The Accidental Player'.]

[Status: Desynchronized.]

Kaelen's eyes narrowed. A Player? Here?

The boy wasn't a hero. He was a 'glitch-spawn'—a commoner whose soul had accidentally absorbed the leaking data from the Collector's death. He was a Level 1 commoner trying to process Level 99 'Protagonist' data. He was about to explode and take half the square with him.

"Stay back," Kaelen commanded Elara.

He didn't walk; he blurred. Using his increased Agility, Kaelen vaulted over the balcony railing, falling fifty feet and landing silently in the center of the crowd. The people scrambled away from him, their faces pale with terror.

Kaelen approached the glowing boy. The green light was searing, smelling of ozone and burnt copper.

"I... I have to... save the Princess..." the boy chanted, his eyes rolling back. "Level up... kill the Demon King... save the—"

"The Demon King is busy," Kaelen interrupted, his voice cold as a winter grave.

He reached out and grabbed the boy by the throat.

[Skill Active: 'Code-Breaker's Touch'.]

Kaelen didn't kill him. He reached into the boy's chest—not through flesh, but through the 'Data-Stream'. He saw the green light—a 'Hero-Soul' script that had been meant for someone else, now trapped in this boy's weak body.

System. Can I 'Refine' this Anomaly?

[Query: Refine 'Corrupted Hero Data'?]

[Cost: 5,000 Points.]

[Outcome: A 'Hollow Knight' Subservient to the Architect.]

"Do it," Kaelen hissed.

The green light turned violet. The boy's screams were cut short as his body stopped warping and began to solidify. His skin turned the color of cold ash, and his eyes became hollow pits of purple flame. A suit of jagged, obsidian armor grew directly out of his skin, sealing him in a permanent, silent metal shell.

The golden exclamation point above his head shattered and reformed into a Purple Skull.

[Unit Created: Hollow Knight - Zero.]

[Level: 35 (Scaled to your Level + 10).]

[Trait: 'Eternal Silence' - Cannot be manipulated by Administrators.]

Kaelen let go of the knight's throat. The armored figure immediately dropped to one knee, its head bowed in absolute submission.

The crowd stared in horrified awe. To them, their Regent had just taken a "demon-possessed" boy and turned him into a divine guardian.

"Behold!" Kaelen roared, turning to the masses. "The first of my 'Iron Saints'! I do not just rule this city; I redefine the souls within it! If the world is broken, I will rebuild it in my image!"

[System Notification: FAME REACHED TIER 3 - 'The God-Regent'.]

[World Event: 'The Counter-Harvest' has been initiated by the remaining Administrators.]

Kaelen looked up at the flickering sky. Far in the distance, past the pixelated clouds, three massive, glowing stars were descending. They weren't stars. They were 'Arch-Administrators'—the Executors.

"Elara!" Kaelen shouted, projecting his voice to the palace. "Prepare the [Despair Well]! I want the city's grief pumped into the mana-lines! We're not defending Eldoria today..."

Kaelen grabbed the hilt of his cane, the raven's eyes glowing with stolen god-essence.

"...we're turning it into a trap."

He looked at the new Hollow Knight standing beside him. "Go to the West Gate. If anything with a 'Holy Aura' tries to enter this city, don't kill it. I want it alive. I need more 'batteries' for the next Tier."

As the knight vanished into a blur of shadow, Kaelen felt a surge of cold adrenaline. He was Level 25, facing entities beyond Level 100, but he had something they didn't.

He had the Delete key.
