Chapter 5: A Mark of Family, A Master's Wisdom

Lucy stood frozen in the doorway, her mind struggling to reconcile the legendary guild of her dreams with the full-scale tavern riot happening in front of her. It was like walking into a live-action episode of a battle shonen, only with more booze and less regard for structural integrity. A guy with more piercings than a pincushion was brawling with a man wearing an orange coat. Elfman was shouting about being a "real man" while lifting a table with one hand. And in the middle of it all, Natsu and Gray were going at it like their lives depended on it.

"You wanna go, popsicle-brain?!" Natsu roared, his fist wreathed in flame.

"Any day, you cinder-head!" Gray retorted, ice forming around his hands. And then, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, his clothes just... vanished, leaving him in nothing but his boxers.

Lucy let out a scandalized shriek. "He's naked!"

"Ah, a new challenger for the stripping habit," Cana commented from the bar, not even looking up from her barrel of ale. "Gray's still the reigning champ, though."

I had forgotten about Gray's stripping habit, I thought, floating calmly above the fray. It's so much weirder in person. This guild has more quirks than a cast of My Hero Academia.

A chair flew past my head, followed by a jet of ice that narrowly missed Elfman. The chaos was escalating. Lucy, trying to make herself as small as possible, was slowly backing away, her dream turning into a nightmare of property damage and public indecency.

Just as it seemed the entire guildhall was about to collapse in on itself, a massive shadow fell over the room.

"WOULD YOU BRATS KNOCK IT OFF!"

The voice was thunderous, echoing with immense power. I looked up to see a giant figure looming over the rafters, his face contorted in a furious scowl. It was Makarov Dreyar, the guild master, in his Titan form.

Instantly, the fighting stopped.

Natsu and Gray, who had been seconds away from unleashing major spells on each other, froze mid-pose. Elfman dropped the table. Everyone snapped to attention like misbehaving school children caught by the principal. The sudden silence was more jarring than the noise had been.

Makarov shrank down to his normal, diminutive size, landing softly on the railing of the second floor. He took a deep breath, looking down at the wreckage of his guildhall.

"You fools..." he sighed, a vein throbbing on his forehead. "Look at all this paperwork! Do you have any idea how much this is going to cost?!" He then proceeded to read off a list of complaints he'd received from the Magic Council, his voice getting angrier with each one.

As he ranted, his eyes fell on Lucy, who was trying to hide behind a pillar. His expression softened slightly. "Oh? A new face?"

He hopped down from the railing, landing nimbly on the bar. "And who might you be, my dear?"

Lucy squeaked, startled by the sudden attention. Natsu, all his previous aggression gone, slung an arm around her shoulders. "She's Lucy! She wants to join the guild! We saved her from a creep!"

"He means I saved her," Happy corrected, puffing out his chest. "And Mew helped!"

All eyes, including Makarov's, turned to me. I just gave a polite little wave with my paw.

Makarov's gaze lingered on me for a long moment, his ancient eyes filled with a deep, analytical curiosity. I could feel his magic, immense and powerful, gently probing my own. It wasn't hostile; it was like a master craftsman examining a strange, new material.

He then turned back to Lucy, a warm smile on his face. "Is that so? You wish to join our crazy family?"

Lucy, overwhelmed but ecstatic, nodded vigorously. "Yes, sir! More than anything!"

"Mira!" Makarov called.

Mirajane, who had been calmly wiping down a glass this whole time, beamed. "Right away, Master!" She pulled out a familiar-looking stamp. "Welcome to Fairy Tail, Lucy! Where would you like your mark, and what color?"

This was it. The moment her life changed forever. Lucy looked down at her hand, a look of pure, unadulterated joy on her face. "On the back of my right hand, please! And in pink!"

Mirajane gently took her hand and pressed the stamp to her skin. When she pulled it away, the iconic emblem of Fairy Tail was there, glowing a soft, beautiful pink. Lucy stared at it, tears welling in her eyes. She was officially a member. She was home.

Mission accomplished, I thought, feeling a genuine sense of happiness for her. She's found her place. Now for me.

"And what," Makarov said, his attention now fully on me, "is this little one? Natsu, you said he helped?"

"Yeah! He's a magic cat who can turn into a dragon and make food float!" Natsu explained, which was technically accurate but spectacularly unhelpful.

"He's a prankster!" Lucy added, still slightly bitter about the sandwich incident.

Makarov looked at me, a thoughtful frown on his face. "I see. I can feel an immense power from you, little one. A power unlike any I have ever encountered. It is pure, ancient, and... vast. What are you?"

This was my moment. I couldn't speak, but I could communicate. I focused my mind, gathering my thoughts into a single, coherent, and respectful sentence. I projected it directly into Makarov's mind, and his alone.

Makarov's eyes shot wide open. He stumbled back a step on the bar, his jaw slack with shock. The entire guild went silent, watching their master's unprecedented reaction. He had faced down dark lords and monsters without flinching, but a single telepathic sentence from a small pink creature had completely floored him.

He recovered in an instant, his expression shifting back to one of calm authority, but I could feel his mind racing. Telepathy... intelligence... respect... This is no mere magical beast. This is an ancient...

He looked at me, and I looked back, letting him see the sincerity in my thoughts. I was not a threat. I was an ally.

Makarov let out a long, slow breath and then began to laugh. A deep, booming laugh that filled the entire hall.

"Hahahaha! Well, I'll be!" he cackled, wiping a tear from his eye. "In all my years, I thought I had seen everything! A telepathic... whatever you are!"

He hopped off the bar and walked towards me, his eyes twinkling. "You wish to join our family, Mew?"

I nodded my head, giving a soft, affirmative mewl.

"Well, we can't exactly stamp you, can we?" he chuckled, gesturing to my smooth, pink skin. "But a guild is a family, not a piece of paper. If Natsu brought you here, and you wish to be one of us, then that's all that matters."

He raised his hand, making the iconic Fairy Tail sign.

"Welcome to Fairy Tail, Mew!" he declared. "As of today, you are one of my children!"

The entire guild erupted in cheers. Natsu grabbed me in a hug that was surprisingly gentle. Lucy was smiling, her eyes still wet with happy tears. Gray, now fully dressed again, gave me a nod of approval.

I had done it. I was officially a member of Fairy Tail.

I floated over to the request board, my new family's cheers echoing behind me. I looked at the various jobs posted there: monster subjugation, item retrieval, bodyguard duty. My eyes scanned the papers, my mind already working, cross-referencing the jobs with the arcs I knew were coming.

The Lullaby incident. The Galuna Island curse. The Phantom Lord attack.

They were all just around the corner. But this time, things would be different. This time, they had a secret weapon. They had a friend who had seen the future.

They had me.
