The reboot was over, but the silence that followed was even louder. Aurum had changed. The sky was no longer a glowing grid; it was a deep, natural indigo, filled with stars that didn't flicker like dying pixels.
Caelum stood on the balcony of the ruined palace, his new heart beating with a steady, organic rhythm. Beside him, Elara and Kira looked out at the city below. For the first time, the NPCs weren't walking in pre-programmed circles. They were talking, crying, and looking at their hands in wonder.
"They're free," Elara whispered. "But freedom is dangerous, Caelum. Without the System's laws, what stops the strong from crushing the weak?"
As if answering her question, a massive explosion rocked the lower districts. A group of former Elite Players—those who had hoarded power under the old System—were now using their leftover mana to terrorize the defenseless citizens.
"It seems some people miss the old days," Caelum said, his eyes turning a sharp, lethal silver. He didn't need a complex interface anymore. He just willed it, and his Data-Scythe appeared in his hand, humming with the power of the Prime Core.
"Kira, stay here and protect the refugees. Elara, come with me. It's time to show this world its first new law."
In the city square, a level 80 Berserker was laughing as he raised a massive axe over a group of terrified children. "The Creator is gone! There are no more bans! No more penalties! I am the king of this trash heap now!"
"Wrong," a cold voice echoed through the square.
The Berserker turned, but before he could even blink, a blur of silver light passed through him. He froze. His massive axe turned into gray dust, and his armor shattered like cheap glass.
Caelum stood behind him, his Scythe resting on his shoulder. "The old penalties are gone. But I've just written a new one."
[NEW_RULE: HOSTILITY_EQUALS_DELETION]
The Berserker looked down at his chest. A silver mark was glowing there. Suddenly, his body began to shrink, his level dropping from 80... 50... 10... until he was nothing more than a level 1 beginner, shivering in the dirt.
"I didn't kill you," Caelum said, looking at the other thugs who were now backing away in terror. "I just took back the power you didn't deserve. From now on, in this world, your strength comes from what you protect, not what you destroy."
Caelum looked up at the thousands of people watching from their windows. "My name is Caelum. I am not your God. But if you try to turn this world back into a prison, I will be your end."
The era of the Glitch King was over. The era of the Architect Protector had begun.
