Elsie was walking down the street with a paper in her hand.She stared at the paper which contained the diagnosis of her having cancer.
The words of the doctor rang in her head over and over again "You have cancer and you have less than a year to live".With tears in her eyes,she burst into a hysterical laughter.
Elsie was an orphan,no friends, just bills and debts piled up. She had a rough life ;a childhood filled with beatings and hardships from the hands of her aunt and her children. After running away when she was 18,she got raped causing her to lose her spark. She worked different part time jobs,got an apartment and when it finally seemed like things were working out,she got diagnosed of cancer.
"WHY ME?"She asked herself."Why can't I be happy, I have no family, friends or anyone who cares about me and now I'll be dying in some months". Thunder rumbled in the sky and rain came pouring down heavily. Tears mixed with rain continued to pour down Elsie's eyes. Even the universe seemed to be mocking her.
A Rolls Royce came speeding down the road."Maybe I should just put an end to this miserable life of mine,not like anyone cares if I live or not" Elsie said to herself. She closed her eyes waiting for the death that would take her when the car hits her.
The car was 2 seconds away from hitting her when it screeched to a halt."Are you crazy?!" The driver screamed after getting out.
" Do you want to die? Didn't you hear me honk"He said with his veins bulging out.She kept staring down."She doesn't look okay,she probably has some issues going on"He thought.
"Hey, get into the car first" He said opening the passenger door. Elsie forced her feet to move and she got into the car. " I'm sorry I shouted at you , I was just pissed seeing you stand in the middle of the road,what if the car had hit you and you lost your life?How do you want your family to feel?" He asked her.
Elsie's ears perked up at the last question he asked."Family?"She chuckled.
" I don't have one and no one cares if I live or die " She said. "Oh, I'm sorry about that. My name is Alex by the way, can I know yours?"He introduced himself to her."Elsie" She answered." You've got a nice name " He complimented." Thanks"She replied blankly. Alex stared at her wondering what was going on in her head. She didn't look like the other girls who were always wearing heavy makeup and throwing themselves at rich men. " Can I drop you off at your place?" He asked." Yeah I guess ". She described the road to her house and he started driving.
The drive was silent until a buzz from Alex's phone came up.He picked up his phone and checked the text that came in."Did you find someone" The text read.
"Oh shit!" Alex muttered.He had totally forgotten the reason why he had come out late in the night.The phone began to ring."Boss" the screen said.He picked it and the first thing he heard was"Where the f**k have you been?? I'm giving you 2 hours and if you don't get someone,consider yourself fired" The voice said and hanged up without allowing him to speak."
