"Why are you the one apologizing?" Viktor asked softly, his heart aching at the sound of her distress. "You did nothing wrong."
"I never heard you cry like this. And I thought it would be better to tell you in person once we met," Viktor answered gently. "I truly did not know so much chaos had erupted back at the palace. Please, just don't cry. I am completely fine."
Hearing those words, Edith felt relieved. "Is the situation very bad out there on the borders?"
"Yes, it is quite tense," Viktor replied honestly. "But fret not. The elite forces are here now, so things will turn around for the better soon. Don't be worried if I am unable to contact you for a while. And please, try not to cry. I know how deeply you are hurting because of what your mother did."
Edith wiped the remaining tears from her eyes. "Hmm." Sensing that he was heavily occupied with his duties, she realized she couldn't keep him on the line much longer.
