He leaned in toward her face, closing the small distance between them to press a tender kiss onto her lips, his grip on his crystal glass remaining entirely intact.
"You know, in the very beginning, I truly felt you would leave me," he confessed softly as he pulled away. "I doubted you. For that, I am sorry."
He leaned back against the cushions and focused his attention on the glowing screen. However, Adeline's eyes remained glued to his side-profile. The dark incident at the Whispering Isles was clearly still weighing heavily on him mentally.
Reaching out, she took his hand in hers, causing him to turn his head so they looked at each other once more. "Even I doubted you at first," she admitted gently. Her lips curled up into a warm smile before she finally looked back toward the TV screen, squeezing his fingers tightly.
"We were always fated for each other, weren't we?" He chugged down the remaining wine from his glass and set it down firmly on the side table.
