Chapter 9 The Completely Refined [Echo]
A leaf swirled in through the window, carried by the autumn wind.
It landed on Basil's pert nose.
He opened his large, azure eyes,
his attention shifting from 'magic power'.
A thought entered his mind on the autumn wind.
"Is this what 'magic power,' which can be recharged like sunlight, refers to?"
With a thought, all his 'magic power' was poured into the gem slot in the upper right corner.
*Whoosh!
* Gems: 2932.441 (+1)
"That's it! This is unfair to honest people!"
"Fine! Let's get a wand appearance!"
He opened the [Wand Slot] with his mind, and wands reappeared.
He quickly reached for the [Wand of Time].
For a moment, he forgot his earlier frustration.
This was time, the greatest power in the world.
[Ding! Sizzle! Sizzle! Sizzle! Wand wood mismatch, not golden acacia wood, consume 2000 gems to materialize?]
Basil's face fell. "
Double! This is going to kill me!"
He reluctantly withdrew his hand; gems were hard currency, not to be wasted.
He had inexplicably chosen [Dragon Knight] before, probably because of the attraction of the wand wood matching.
"I'll wait until things get going and then rob Ollivander's wand shop." Basil rubbed his hands together like a fly.
"Hmm, for me, a secondhand wand shop might be more suitable."
"No! The former has a greater timeline deviation!"
Time passed day by day, and soon it was August 31st.
School starts tomorrow.
His gems had once again broken the 4000 mark as time progressed.
Gems: 4624.442 (+0.001/s)
He had also gotten used to sleeping alone, with no one to warm the bed.
During this time, he hadn't been idle.
[Echo] [Fenrir the Wolf] had been fully refined by him.
The eight spell bonus slots are: Killing Curse, Imperius Curse, Cruciatus Curse, Lockpicking Curse, Disillusionment Curse, Horn Curse, Healing Curse, and Concealing Breath Curse.
Basil was disappointed; there was no Death Eater's signature black mist flight.
He discovered that he could learn the corresponding spells by focusing his attention on the bonus slots,
just like he learned spells by reading books.
He learned about the Concealing Breath Curse and Horn Curse, two spells not mentioned in the movies or games, in this way.
He learned that the Conceal Breath Charm belonged to the category of Charms: spells that alter the intrinsic properties of the target.
It could conceal one's breath, body odor, body temperature, and the sound of movement.
The incantation was [Silence].
It should work well when combined with the Disillusionment Charm.
Basil suspected that the reason he hadn't initially smelled Fenrir's disgusting odor
was probably because of this spell.
The Horn Charm belonged to the category of Hexes, spells that kept the target in a negative state, closest to Black Magic, i.e., Curses.
It could cause the target to grow horns.
Ox, sheep, deer, or other horns were all acceptable,
depending on the caster's preference .
The incantation was [Horns Grow].
When he first learned the effect of this spell, Basil felt a chill run down his spine.
What kind of pervert would be most proficient in such a spell?
Combining Fenrir calling him a lamb with Fenrir's horrific evil deeds, he almost instantly understood the spell's purpose.
It's worth mentioning that this method, along with spells learned directly from books, only requires 100 gems to create the corresponding spell cards.
Of course, he can still use the spell without creating spell cards.
However, when casting, he can no longer cast spells silently and without a wand, abandoning the wand, incantation, and wand swing trajectory.
The success rate also depends on himself.
In the past few days, Basil has learned the Illusion Charm, Concealing Breath Charm, Unlocking Charm, and Healing Charm through this [Echo]. He
has also mastered the Illumination Charm, Stunning Charm, Disarming Charm, Fire Charm, Clear Water Charm, Cleansing Charm, Cleansing Charm, Cloud Charm, Armor Charm, and Body Binding Charm through books.
These spells cover all aspects of housework, combat, defense, concealment, survival, and healing.
However, he only spent 1000 gems to create 10 spell cards.
The Illumination Charm, Cleansing Charm, Cleansing Charm, and Body Binding Charm were excluded.
As for the others, such as the Transfiguration Charm, Professor Cat said that it is the most dangerous spell, and he does not intend to learn it on his own.
In the realm of dark magic, he currently has no intention of engaging with anything, from mild curses (Jinx) to moderate poisonous curses (hex) to the most severe curses (Curse).
Eating melon seeds in a game is cool,
but every book clearly states that dark magic will corrupt the user's mind.
He plans to master the only positive magic explicitly mentioned in the movie—the Patronus Charm—before venting on these.
Besides, with his [Spellbook], his cards will level up as he practices and reaches full proficiency.
Once his Disarm Charm is maxed out, he can use it as a Killing Charm.
Killing you isn't a joke.
In total, he now has 11 cards:
10 spell cards and 1 summoning card.
His spellbook has also been upgraded accordingly.
[ID: 000000001]
[Spellbook Level: 2 (1000/300)]
[Name: Lane Smith/Basil Granger]
[Race: Wizard]
[Date of Enrollment: 1991/07/27]
[Life Points: 10+10 (Echo Bonus: 1000, False Life Points: 132·231)]
[Mana: 7+6]
[Luck: 3~7]
[Family Traits: Red Dragon Blood (To be Ignized), Plant Affinity (Awakened), Potion Mastery]
The Illusion Charm, Concealing Breath Charm, Unlocking Charm, and Healing Charm are at level 4 due to Echo.
Using two types of magic simultaneously can reach level 5.
If a wand is used, plus the [Wand Appearance] bonus, the power is estimated to be even stronger.
However, without data to support this, Basil is unsure of the exact level.
The remaining cards are all at level 1.
Basil, with his [Plant Affinity] talent, could amplify summoned plants, allowing them to regenerate health, increase damage and attack speed, and shorten attack intervals.
He should find more magical plants to create summoning cards.
However, summoning cards couldn't increase damage by providing more magic power like spell cards.
Magic power consumption was fixed; doubling the magic power only summoned one more magical creature.
Moreover, the magical creatures required for creating summoning cards couldn't be learned from books.
Even the less useful Bubble Pod and Goblin required 500 gems, just like Devil's Web.
And the redwood near his house was too expensive.
White Peanut's effect overlapped with the Healing Spell.
He planned to go to Professor Sprout's greenhouse to find materials after school started.
"Professor Sprout's greenhouse, how wonderful that would be! How deadly would the mandrake's deadly sound be if it were made into a card?"
Basil couldn't help but daydream.
Until "Ouch!" He kicked the cauldron.
Only then did he remember what he still needed to do:
pack everything into a box.
"Pack!" Basil shouted, sweeping his wand across the ground with wide arcs.
Under the power of the tidying charm, books, clothes, a telescope, and scales floated into the air, haphazardly flying into the box.
"Hmm, still not quite tidy."
"Should I spend 100 gems to make a card?" Basil hesitated, biting his finger.
His visual memory easily found the corresponding book—"Life Hacks"
—and the corresponding page number and line.
[Note: If you want things to tidy themselves up, even socks to fold themselves.]
[After sweeping the wand across the ground with wide arcs, you also need to flick it lightly and swiftly.]
[Most importantly, you must have actually done housework before, and done it very well.]
He flicked his wand hopefully.
A sock wiggled limply and fell back into the messy pile of things in the box.
"Oh well," Basil said, slamming the box shut. "At least everything's in."
"No wonder Molly Weasley could single-handedly kill Bella."
"Life spells seem simple, but using them well isn't necessarily easier than eating melons."
"She was always busy with housework, which allowed her to hone her magic."
"While Bella spent so much time in jail."
(Bonus chapter.)
Before the book goes on sale, I usually update once a day to build up my reserves.
After all, I might be moving to a new department soon, which will be quite busy.
