"In the world we live in, 'Ethernano' permeates all things. It is the very source of magic for wizards. By learning to harness the magical power within yourself, you can cast incredibly mighty spells!"
Deep within the lush forests of Tenrou Island, a girl's clear voice flowed unhurriedly and melodically, like the bubbling of a pristine brook. Beneath the canopy of a giant tree, whose trunk would take at least two people to encircle, a petite blonde was patiently explaining the nature of magic to the adorable dark-haired boy sitting before her.
"Power that transcends the ordinary is born from the very foundations of the universe. Magic is not some kind of miracle. It is the harmonious fusion of the energy flowing within us and the energy permeating nature. Only then can it manifest in reality. This requires immense concentration and spiritual strength. To pour your entire soul into a spell—that is the meaning of true magic! Magic originates in the heart. Therefore, Night, use your heart to understand this world. Immerse yourself in meditation, and I believe that you will undoubtedly become a great wizard!"
Mavis looked at Night, her gaze brimming with genuine hope.
"Yes, I can do it!" Night nodded confidently, an unchildlike seriousness reflecting on his young face.
Finally, he could begin his study of magic! It was the most powerful and mysterious force in the world of Fairy Tail. Only by mastering it could one secure a decent life and gain influence in this harsh world. Night sat on the ground, closed his eyes, and, following Mavis's instructions on meditation, began to listen to the currents of natural energy.
The words Mavis had just spoken perfectly echoed the speech given by Makarov Dreyar, the Third Master of Fairy Tail, during his very first appearance. In his past life, Night had only been a casual anime fan, so he couldn't recall every single detail by heart. But now, hearing these teachings in person and letting them resonate within him, he experienced entirely different emotions than he had when watching the show through a screen.
Exactly five years had passed since the day Mavis found him on the beach. Five whole years of waiting just so she would finally start teaching him magic. Had he been an ordinary five-year-old child, there would have been nothing unusual about this. But he possessed the mind of a grown man. Spending five years on Tenrou Island in the company of a charming fairy girl might be any guy's dream, yet in his free time, he still found himself frankly bored out of his mind.
He had no idea that prior to his arrival, Mavis had spent almost all her time asleep. This was partly because she was merely a spiritual projection, but primarily due to the unbearable loneliness from which sleep was her only escape. It was only when Night awakened her with his call that her life on Tenrou Island regained its vibrant colors. Over these five years, Night had become her most cherished companion, or rather... her family!
Logically speaking, Night could have started learning magic as soon as he gained self-awareness. However, Mavis discovered that such a colossal amount of magical power was hidden within his tiny body that his physical vessel simply wouldn't have withstood its awakening. They had to wait until the boy grew a little older. Even after five years, he barely met Mavis's minimum requirements. If Night hadn't insisted on starting his training himself, she would have postponed it for another two years.
…
Sitting on the ground with his eyes closed and following Mavis's instructions, Night quickly slipped into a state of deep trance, a place devoid of thoughts and anxieties.
The currents of energy...
Through his meditation, Night felt as though he had been transported to an ethereal realm where myriads of multicolored, glowing motes drifted around him. These were the various elements that filled the universe.
The red motes embodied the element of fire!
The blue ones represented water!
The green ones were wind!
And, of course, there were other, rarer elements present that did not belong to the basic forces of nature!
However, it was distinctly clear that there were hardly any motes of other colors swirling around Night. Or rather, they all paled and vanished against the backdrop of a single, all-consuming hue—a blinding gold! Compared to this golden radiance, all the other elements seemed like dim fireflies set against a brilliant sun and boundless starry galaxies. And this gold represented none other than the element of light—the very element unofficially revered as the strongest in the entire universe!
…
Meanwhile, in the real world.
Mavis watched as golden sparks rushed toward Night in an endless stream. Feeling the dense aura of light radiating from them, she couldn't help but smile.
"Just as I thought, Night is a natural-born Light Mage. It is my first time seeing such a magnificent concentration of light magic. I simply can't wait to see who he will become when he grows up! I daresay he will surpass every Light Mage in history!"
Mavis's voice rang with genuine pride and admiration. After all, she had raised Night herself; he was the person closest to her heart. His future triumphs would be her triumphs as well. Given Mavis's colossal life experience, her acknowledgment of Night as the most gifted Light Mage she had ever encountered spoke volumes of the boy's truly incredible potential.
Night remained oblivious to Mavis's thoughts. At that moment, he discovered that his consciousness had been transported to some fantastical dimension.
"What is this...?" Night's dark eyes flew wide open, as if he were witnessing something beyond human comprehension.
Hovering right in front of him was a gigantic golden sphere. It shone as blindingly as the midday sun, radiating an endless stream of light magic that enveloped Night in an incredible sense of warmth and comfort!
This illusory space was Night's inner world, his spiritual sea, and he was present here as a projection of his own consciousness. Night could never have imagined that such a sphere lay hidden within him. The sheer volume of light magic energy contained within it was so colossal that, even without any prior experience interacting with other magical sources, Night understood: this was a power truly limitless, as profound as the ocean's abyss!
"If only I could learn to control this power..." Night whispered, a burning thrill flashing in his eyes. "Doesn't this mean I have a perpetual motion machine of magical energy inside me?!"
Just imagine: in a battle against an equally matched opponent, the enemy would gradually exhaust their reserves, while Night's magic would remain at its peak, continuously replenishing itself. The outcome of such a duel would be a foregone conclusion. Furthermore, this golden sphere undoubtedly harbored other properties still unknown to him. Night had yet to unlock its full potential, step by step, in the future.
