Chapter 246 - Chapter 245: The Dawn Crusade (Bonus)

This is the bonus chapter for reaching 600 Powerstones.

--

Void Starport, Dawn Orbital Fortress.

This colossal void station—which began construction sixteen years ago and was completed three years ago—was now experiencing the busiest moment of its existence.

One Olympia-class Strike Cruiser, the Light of Dawn; four Lunar-class Cruisers, the Shattered Dawn, Crimson Will, Unyielding Conviction, and Hope's Crusade...

...slowly adjusted their orientation in the void, opening their massive cargo bay doors.

Fifteen Sword-class Frigates patrolled the perimeter. They bore a unified dark red livery, their prows emblazoned with the striking emblem of Crimson Dawn.

An even larger fleet of transport vessels was massing.

These were the Rhino-class Transports, constructed over the past dozen years using local resources and the various technologies provided by Paul.

While their performance couldn't match standardized Imperial models, they made up for it in sheer numbers, low production costs, and easy maintenance.

At every docking port, columns of Dawn Defense Force soldiers in gray uniforms could be seen marching aboard.

Their wargear had seen a qualitative leap compared to twenty-three years ago.

They were equipped with standardized lasguns, composite carapace armor, and individual vox-beads. Platoon-level units were even issued heavy bolters and compact meltaguns.

The faces of these soldiers lacked the hollow numbness so common among Imperial Auxilia; instead, they bore a calm, quiet resolve.

They knew exactly what they were fighting for.

It wasn't for the empty glory of the Emperor, nor the greedy ambitions of the nobility.

It was for the home they had built with their own bare hands on the planet behind them. For the children who no longer had to go hungry, and for the parents who could grow old in peace.

Labor earns dignity; Hope guides the Dawn... This was more than just a slogan.

It was the living, breathing reality that their generation had built.

--

Early the next morning, New Dawn City. Aurelian IV's premier surface metropolis, the seat of the Crimson Dawn Planetary Government.

Helovia Elnor wore her custom silver power armor, her long silver hair gently catching the morning breeze.

Flanking her was Cogboy... Cage Lawrence. The two walked at a measured pace toward the pristine white building in the city center.

The Dawn Parliament Building.

This was the supreme center of executive power on Aurelian IV, nominally subordinate to the Planetary Governor's Mansion.

In reality, under Helovia's thirteen years of management, it had evolved into a highly efficient, incorruptible governance system deeply rooted among the populace.

The Parliament consisted of eighteen members. Helovia served as the Chief Speaker, supported by two Vice Speakers... one overseeing military affairs, the other handling civil administration.

The remaining fifteen parliament members respectively managed public welfare, public security, infrastructure, finance, education, healthcare, industry, agriculture, resources, science and technology, culture, justice, oversight, diplomacy, and the Youth League.

There were nine civil parliamentarians and six military parliamentarians.

They were all young... the oldest was forty-five, the youngest thirty-nine.

Every single one was a homegrown elite from Aurelian IV. They all boasted deep grassroots resumes, having been painstakingly promoted through the ranks from their origins as workers, farmers, teachers, and technicians.

But most importantly, they were all core members of the Aurelian Youth League.

That very organization founded by Paul twenty-four years ago with the express purpose of cultivating the next generation of governing talent had now taken root in every corner of the planet.

Helovia and Cogboy stepped into the parliament hall.

The eighteen parliament members were already standing in solemn anticipation.

"Your Excellency, Governor!"

They saluted in unison, their right fists resting lightly against their left breasts... It was the traditional salute of Crimson Dawn, equal and solemn.

Helovia walked over to the main seat but didn't immediately sit down.

Her gaze swept across every face in the room—these were the companions Paul himself had helped her select, cultivate, and trust.

"Everyone," she began, her voice clear and powerful. "Does this gentleman need an introduction?"

Matthew Anderson, the Vice Speaker in charge of military affairs... a former miner's son who now served as the Vice Commander of the Dawn Defense Force... was the first to speak up.

"Governor Cage Lawrence."

"The man who brought change to Aurelian."

A complex light shimmered in his eyes. "I will never forget that moment twenty-three years ago, when you stood on the judgment platform in the Kent Hive plaza, sentencing those parasites and announcing the new policies of Crimson Dawn."

The other parliament members nodded in agreement.

Perhaps they didn't harbor the same profound affection for this founding Governor as they did for Archmagos Paul, who had personally guided them.

But no one could deny Cage Lawrence's place in history.

He and Archmagos Paul were the ones who forged the very first semblance of order out of the ashes of their suffering.

He was the one who signed the first Labor Protection Act; he was the one who initiated the Hive City Reconstruction Project.

And he was the one who stood before an Imperial Primarch to secure Aurelian's legal right to self-governance.

Helovia gave a slight nod. "Good."

"Since you all know who he is, I'll just announce it straight away..."

She took a deep breath, her voice carrying across the entire hall.

"Effective immediately, the position of Crimson Dawn Planetary Governor is reinstated to Cage Lawrence."

"All administrative, military, and diplomatic powers over Aurelian IV are hereby transferred to Governor Cage."

"All members of the Dawn Parliament must submit to his leadership."

"Is that understood?"

"Understood!!"

The voices of the eighteen members rang out in perfect, hesitation-free unison.

Cogboy stood beside Helovia, his mechanical augmetic eye slowly scanning the crowd.

Reading their pupillary responses, he could sense that they genuinely accepted his return as the Planetary Governor of Aurelian IV.

Or rather, it was their absolute faith in the organization known as Crimson Dawn.

Over the past dozen years, these people had seen with their own eyes how this planet was reborn from the ruins, how hope was nurtured from the depths of despair.

They themselves, their families, and their entire social class had their destinies rewritten because of Crimson Dawn.

To them, "Loyalty to Crimson Dawn" wasn't some empty slogan; it was a survival ethos carved into their very bones.

Cogboy nodded and approached the main seat... Helovia willingly stepped aside to make room for him.

"Everyone, I've reviewed your files."

"Every single one of you worked your way up from the absolute bottom, making tangible contributions in your respective fields."

"But more importantly... the data shows that none of you have forgotten where you came from."

"During your time in office, your immediate family members have continued to work in production and labor. None of you have abused your power to secure privileges for your family."

"That is excellent."

The eighteen parliament members straightened their backs, looks of immense pride washing over their faces.

Being acknowledged by the founding Governor was an unparalleled honor.

"Let's skip the pleasantries," Cogboy said, pulling up the holographic star map. The coordinates for the L-246 system blinked on the projection. "Crimson Dawn is about to launch a crusade against the Dal planet."

"There are three reasons for this. First, to eliminate a potential threat; second, to acquire resources; and third, to temper our military."

"Over the past twenty-three years, Aurelian's development has consumed sixty-seven percent of our known mineral reserves."

"The Tithe eats up twelve percent of our annual output, and we can't withhold a single coin of it."

"If we want to grow stronger, we have to secure new sources of revenue."

"I need you all to mobilize an elite Dawn Defense Force vanguard of half a million soldiers within forty-eight hours. I want them fully equipped with wargear, munitions, rations, and medical supplies, and I want them deployed aboard the fleet."

"Can you get it done?"

"Consider it done, sir!!" The eighteen members responded in unison.

Matthew Anderson added, "Governor Cage, isn't half a million a bit conservative?"

"With our mobilization capabilities, we could assemble over 1.2 million troops within three days..."

Cogboy raised a hand to stop him. "Quality over quantity."

"This expedition won't rely on human wave tactics. We need elites who can fight grueling battles, adapt to alien environments, and execute complex tactical maneuvers."

He paused, his gaze landing on the six military parliamentarians.

"General Roger Theodore will serve as the ground commander for the expeditionary force."

A general in his early forties with a chiseled, resolute face took a step forward.

"General Ruhl Montgomery will serve as the fleet's deputy commander and oversee logistical coordination."

Another slightly older general, possessing an aura of unflappable calm, stepped out of the ranks.

He had demonstrated staggering organizational capabilities during the twenty-three years of reconstruction.

The two named generals slammed their right fists against their left breasts, their eyes brimming with excitement.

While the remaining four military parliamentarians and Vice Speaker Matthew were envious, they harbored no resentment.

They knew that with Archmagos Paul and the founding members personally leading the charge, this was the first proactive military strike in Crimson Dawn's history. Being chosen was both a supreme honor and a heavy responsibility.

Cogboy looked at the ten civil parliamentarians and the other five military parliamentarians. "As for the rest of you... you're with me. We hold the fort."

His mechanical augmetic eye flashed with a faint red light.

"The Warp storms have been clear for twenty-three days now."

"According to the telemetry data from our probes, the Imperial warp routes in the Korianis Sector are becoming navigable again."

"I'm sure you all understand exactly what that means."

The expressions of the parliament members instantly turned grim.

The Imperium was coming back.

"We must be fully prepared to deal with the fallout."

"Now, dismissed."

"Make your preparations."

"Victory for Crimson Dawn."

"Victory!!!"

--

Two hours later.

By the time Cogboy returned to the top floor of the Kent Hive Governor's Mansion, Paul was still standing by that massive floor-to-ceiling window.

Outside the glass, Aurelian's setting sun was sinking below the horizon. The crimson and silver twin moons were slowly rising, casting their glow over Aurelian's newly forged lands.

The tethers of the space elevators sparkled with navigation lights against the night sky, as transport ships swarmed toward the orbital starport like bees returning to their hive.

The colossal war machine was already running at full throttle.

"Is everything arranged?" Paul asked without turning around.

"Yeah, it's all handled."

"The handover with Helovia went smoothly. Those parliament members really live up to the fact that you handpicked them. They're solid."

Cogboy looked out at the scenery. "Half a million troops, over a year's worth of supplies, and a complete wargear overhaul for five legions..."

"That is a hell of a lot of war materiel to mobilize..."

"Relax. The payoff will be worth the price. My Trait is telling me that we might just stumble onto some unexpected windfalls this time around." Paul said softly. "And this is just the beginning."

In that moment, the five stars within his dark golden pupils seemed to resonate with the starlight outside the window.

"Let's go. To the starport."

"Let's kick off... Crimson Dawn's very first crusade."

"Sooner or later," Paul's voice echoed with unwavering absolute certainty just before the elevator doors slid shut.

"I'm going to let this entire universe know..."

"That the Emperor's Great Crusade and Chaos's Black Crusades aren't the only paths forward for humanity."

"There is also..."

The elevator ascended, carrying the golden-armored figure up toward the orbital void.

The lights of the starport grew closer and closer overhead, shining like the very first star to ignite during the darkest hour right before the dawn.

"The Dawn Crusade."
