Chapter 22 - CHAPTER 20: Pajamas, Popcorn, and Pillow Forts

Friday evening arrived, and the city streets outside The Daily Grind were buzzing with weekend energy.

For Lia Henderson, it meant finally leaving behind the chaos of espresso machines, muffin avalanches, and coffee disasters. Today was their night.

"…So," Ethan said, grinning as he stepped into her apartment, "do we finally have a quiet night?"

"…Finally," Lia said, kicking off her shoes and sinking into the couch. "…Just you, me… and zero chaos."

"Zero chaos?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "…Are you sure about that?"

"…Absolutely," she said firmly, though a mischievous glint in his eye suggested otherwise.

They spent the next hour building a pillow fort in her living room—because, apparently, adult life demanded a serious fort for serious fun.

Pillows toppled over mid-construction.

Ethan accidentally smacked Lia with a cushion while "reinforcing the walls."

Laughter echoed through the apartment, nearly drowning out the city sounds outside.

"…This is ridiculous," Lia said, collapsing onto a pile of pillows. "…But also perfect."

"…Exactly," Ethan said, crawling in after her. "…Ridiculous and perfect."

Next came the popcorn and movie marathon.

They argued over which movie to start with—action? romantic comedy? horror?

Ethan tried to sneak popcorn into his mouth without spilling, which naturally failed spectacularly. Lia retaliated by tossing a piece of popcorn at him, hitting him squarely on the nose.

"…I love this," he said, laughing, wiping popcorn from his face. "…You're ridiculous."

"…I know," she whispered, brushing his hair back. "…And you're impossible."

"And yet," he murmured, leaning closer, "…completely yours."

By late evening, they were tangled in blankets, the pillow fort now a cozy, chaotic nest.

"…This," Lia said softly, resting her head on his shoulder, "…this is perfect. No chaos, no café disasters, just… us."

"…Exactly," he whispered, holding her hand. "…Just messy blankets, popcorn, and completely yours."

Her heart fluttered. "…Completely yours," she echoed, smiling.

And for the first time in weeks, the world outside seemed irrelevant. Life with Ethan Cruz—messy, ridiculous, chaotic, and utterly wonderful—was more than enough.
