Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: An unexpected event

The car hummed as it drove through the concrete road, tyres running on tarmac. A young man was seated in the driver's seat, a seat belt pulled along his slightly chubby midsection as his placed hands on the steering wheel drove the car.

Around him where countless and tall trees and their leaves were intensely green and bright.

"Your meeting is scheduled for 10 am tomorrow" A slightly robotic voice sounded in the space of the car.

"Mm" The young man whose name is Eli nodded.

"Traffic conditions appear normal"

"Oh okay." He said with another nod, as he steered his eyes towards the window.

Outside of the window, countless flowers and trees grew, as the scent and naturalistic smell of nature permeated everything.

Even though he passed through this place everyday from work, he had to say, that he truly would never get used to this.... feeling. As he thought of that, the car veered towards the left of the road and then through the window he saw something which made his blood freeze.

Blood. Thick, red and crimson. Blood stained the underbrush, splashed into everything that could be called green. The car screeched to a halt as Eli jerked forward, removed his belt and rushed out of it. His face contorted slightly as he stared at the scene in front of him.

Various dead creatures, like an antelope, squirrels and various more like birds lay dead and disfigured in pools of blood, some hung in various shocking and cruel ways. A squirrel had both of its hands nailed to a tree, and it's legs nailed together in a heap, forming some kind of a cross sign, making Eli's thought fly to a certain figure from the Bible "jesus"

That was the word which came out from his lips, as he peered his gaze around, sweeping through the forest, hoping to find what had caused this massacre but seconds turned to minutes and nothing came. All he saw was more dead bodies and body parts.

He immediately rushed to his car, locked and shut the doors and window fully before pressing his legs on the accelerator and rushing swiftly away.

....

Eli car rushed through the gate and onto the compound of his home, as he proceeded to immediately get out from the car and rush imto his house.

The amount of speed that was generated from him at this moment was huge that if one were to see it, they would have to wonder, how such a 'big' fellow could do such.

Entering into his house, he threw the keys on the counter, before quickly making his way phone which he had kept at home. Grabbing the phone, he proceeded to search the internet, his fingers scrolling through it as he thought of which agency might be specialized in this.

"The police?" He wasn't sure.

"Maybe environment services right?" He questioned. He paced around the room, sweat glistening down his forehead as the hot afternoon sun pierced through curtains.

As he moved to go and seat to maybe calm his racing nerves, suddenly he heard a "crash"

Instantly he froze.

What?

He walked with caution, legs moving softly and carefully as he drew towards where the noise came from. And from there he saw it. A shadow. A person shadow, smashing through something gave it away and his breath hitched and he found himself taking several quick steps backward but not before knocking at the vase which was at his back

Crash!

The vase crashed into the floor, breaking into several pieces and at this moment Eli already knew he was fucked.

Bang!

The sound of a door getting broken apart sounded through the air, as Eli sprinted towards the hallway not even waiting for a second. Three figures burst from the door, with huge deer mask on their head, masking their face and hands clenching at clean and shining axes. The three turned their heads in various directions and as if mentally agreeing, they split up into groups of one, as one moved towards the kitchen area, the other towards the backyard area and the last towards the hallway.

Eli sprinted sprinted down the hallway while the sound of boots pounded behind him, causing his heart to be slammed against his ribs.

"What the hell—what the hell—" He screamed frantically in his mind as he entered into his room.

Then as if suddenly realising his mistake, he forcibly took deep breaths and calmed himself down, deciding to try and understand and escape this situation he had suddenly found himself in.

Steadying himself, he stretched his hand and peered through the door slightly and finding no one incoming, began to contemplate the dire situation he had suddenly found himself in.

He was in a terrifying situation right now, and through the various multiple noises he could here around the house, he could tell there were numerous attackers around in the house.

"W-why… why am I being chased?"He asked in his head repeatedly as he struggled to process the enormity of his situation.

He had no understanding as to why someone was banging and breaking into his house but for a person to do such a thing, it definitely means that they are have ill intentions. But still... Did he ever wrong anyone? Did he ever seek to harm or hurt a person? Hadn't he always been an advocate for the good of the people?

Looking back on it, Eli had always been a kind and helpful person, always following in the footsteps of others and deliberately going out of his way to make them happy and help them achieve what they want. He had always listened to his elders and always asked the right questions, frequently and at every time embodying in himself the demeanor of a 'hero'. A person who would always help others in time of need and always be there to comfort those in seasons of cold. The nickname "big bear" was even gotten from that, which people around him had come to know him by, due to the fact of his size, behavior and act. And as such with all these, the struggle of finding a person who would want to harm Eli was hard.

Never once in his 27 years of living had he thought that something this terrifying was going to occur.

Eli let a deep sigh rip out of him and at this moment a resolute expression devoured his face. He was going to survive and he was going to recount of this ordeal later in his life with his grandchildren and laugh about it.

Thinking all these things, Eli approached the drawer of his bedroom and from its brought out a black gun. The gun was cold and heavy and it was a SIG Sauer P320. Feeling and testing the weight of this weapon in his hand, Eli closed the drawer and drew the weapon, pointing it at the door.

Just because he was good did not mean he was weak. And just because he never seeked to harm others, does not mean if push comes to shove he would not blow the person's brains off.

Resolutely making up his mind, he slowly advanced towards the door and peering once again to see if anyone was there and seeing that no one was, he opened the door and stepped out, walking calmly through the hallway and making his way towards the basement.

As he walked, pointing the gun from right to left, he wasnt aware of the individual that was coming from his right silently and the intruder, raising up his axe mightly swung it down fiercely, but not before Eli instinct had warned him and he instantly turned and evaded. The attack came down on empty air, and Eli who had just ducked a moment ago, was still too stunned to imagine how badly injured and in pain he would be if that attack had landed. Just having the thought to imagine it caused him to shudder and the opponent took advantage of this and in a wide moon shaped arc swung ferociously, drawing the first blood.
