Chapter 117 - Chapter 89: Snake's territory

Jay's pov:

The chaos of section E faded like a sun going down the mountains. They eventually had to head back and prepare for the entrance exam.

The night was fun, chaotic. Something I loved with section E was their absolute chaos. Something that will never end in this lifetime.

Laying on the bed with keifer, Feeling his warmth embrace was something that always made me feel protected. But tomorrow was a big day. Or to be exact a tiring day for me to enter the university before I even start it.

I nuzzled more towards keifer. His arms tightened instinctively more. Some habit of his that made me smile.

My fingers traced his face slowly absorbing his calmness, sleeping face that made me adore and love him more.

Somehow...

He was going to be my future husband.

his breathing slow and even against my neck. I could feel the steady rise and fall of his chest.

My fingers stopped at his lips.

I moved my finger away.

Not because I wanted to...

A restlessness had settled deep in my chest for a while now, the kind that preceded storms, the kind that made animals hide and sensible people lock their doors. It felt like someone walking over my grave, except I was still breathing, still warm, still held. The wrongness of it crawled under my skin.

The moonlight poured through the window, silver and indifferent. It touched everything shining directly at my eyes, my bare shoulder, Keifer's hand resting against my waist, the edge of the blanket pooled at our hips.

Beautiful.

Untroubled.

It had shone just as calmly over battles and births, over lovers parting and lovers finding each other in the dark. The moon asked nothing, warned no one. It simply was, distant and ancient and complete.

my unease felt louder than the silence.

Deeper than the dark.

The moonlight showed me exactly how small my fear was in the vast night, how insignificant my worry against all that pale, endless light.

Something was coming.

I felt it in my teeth, in the spaces between my ribs, in the hollow place behind my eyes that ache when I tried to name it. The moon would keep shining when it arrived. The moon would shine on whatever came after.

I turned.

pressing my back against Keifer, seeking his warmth, his solidity. His arm tightened reflexively, a sleepy murmur against her hair, and then relaxed again. Still here. Still safe. For now.

The phone rang, sharp and electronic, splitting the dark like a knife.

I flinched slightly.

I slightly turned my neck back, keifer nuzzled closer. But he didn't wake up.

my heart jumped against my ribs. I stared at the screen lighting up on the nightstand, the name glowing there.

I got out of keifer's grip slowly.

Very slowly.

So he wouldn't wake up.

I moved over to the nightstand.

CALLER ID: JARE

The name was unmistakable.

The phone's screen light was shining bright more than anything.

I agree Jare sleeps late. But he never called me this late.

Not when it's 1am in the morning.

My hands trembled. My jaws locked tight. I reached out for my phone and walked out of the room silently.

Once I was a little further from the room. I attended the call and pressed the phone to my ear, gripping it tight, my knuckles white.

My heart was hammering against my ribs hard.

Fear?

Probably yes.

I could hear muffled noises at the background. Which made it possible he was actually outside.

I clicked my tongue.

"Kuya? Where the hell are you!?" I demanded frustrated.

"Relax princess." He replied Lazily. "We need to talk." The tone had disappeared from laziness to seriousness.

My breathing became shallow.

"Can't it b-be tomorrow?" my voice shook, i didn't know why...

"No Jay." He said fimly. "It's important I need to speak to you face to face now. All the Mythicals are gathered in the normal spot." He said in his authorative tone.

I bit my lower lip.

"What is it about Jare?" I asked.

There was a pause.

"Aunt Katrina." He replied in dark, rough tone that sent shivers down my spine.

I didn't reply.

There was a pause from his end again.

"I went to the company today..." His words were hesitant.

"I know Kuya. Mom told me..."

I could hear his breathing heavy.

"What happened???" I asked pulling my courage.

"Well. Some people plans on ruling the snake's territory. We have to safeguard it after all.

There was another pause from him.

"Meet me Jay. I will tell."

Before I could even tell a response. He had cut the call. I watched the heavy dark screen of my phone with a shallow breathing.

The unease was heavy.

I walked back to the room to see keifer still sleeping peacefully totally unbothered. I kissed his forehead and smiled.

I pulled out a hoodie, and walked out of the room.

Whatever this was about...

It is the worst.
