Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Reunion After Three Years

The coffee had gone cold long ago, but so had everything inside her.

Tina sat staring at the cup in front of her, slowly stirring the spoon as if she could delay the moment of confrontation. Every few seconds, her eyes drifted to the door, and her heart beat in a rhythm that did not match the calm atmosphere of the café.

Three years.

Three years of absence, silence, and unanswered questions.

"He's not coming," she whispered to herself, trying to convince her heart before her mind.

Then, in the next moment…

The door bell rang.

She lifted her head quickly.

He walked in.

The same face… but not the same man.

His steps were calm, almost too confident, and his gaze felt strangely cold. He did not smile when he saw her. He simply walked over and sat across from her in silence, as if nothing had ever existed between them.

A heavy silence passed.

Then Tina said, trying to keep her voice steady: "Where have you been?"

He did not answer.

Her eyes sharpened. "Three years… no message… not even a small lie?"

A faint, bitter smile appeared on his lips, like it did not belong to that moment.

Then he said quietly: "I was fighting…"

She froze.

"Fighting what?"

He looked at her directly for the first time.

"Time."

The silence that followed was unsettling.

Before she could explode with questions, he took something small from his pocket…

A ring.

He placed it on the table slowly.

"I came back to give you the safety you deserve."

She leaned back slightly, looking between the ring and his face.

"You… changed."

He leaned a little closer and lowered his voice.

"And there's something you need to know…"

He stopped.

She looked at him, alarmed. "What?"

He smiled again… but this time, it was a smile she had never seen before.

"The one who came back… is not the one who left."
