Chapter 68 - Big Jerky himself

"What about the NCR?" He eventually asked.

"Oh House doesn't want to get rid of them if that's what you are worried about. They are his best customers after all. He just wants to curb their desire to swallow New Vegas is all. He doesn't mind them using the place as a staging point to the east but he wants to maintain control." I explained with a shrug.

"And the rest?" Adam asked curiously.

"Well it depends on the group in question. The Khans will likely end up pushed out or killed off by the NCR so the main problem with them is if they side with the Legion out of hatred for the NCR. The Boomers up in Nellis mostly keep to themselves but can be persuaded to join either side of the fight and if helped completely will even have an aircraft for dropping bombs by the time of the battle. The clans that run the casinos will have to be brought back in line of course but really that's mostly minor trouble. The Brotherhood as I said is going to get gone one way or another and the Powder gangers are just a bunch of escaped convicts. Once the battle is over and the NCR can focus on smaller things they'll clear up on their own." I said pretty sure I hadn't missed any of the major factions.

"You forgot the Legion." Adam pointed out.

"No I didn't. As far as House is concerned the Legion is not winning that next battle for the dam. What will happen to them is pretty obvious." I said with a chuckle.

"And what about us? What will we be doing after the battle?" Adam asked.

"I have no damned idea. Isn't that fun?" I said with a chuckle.

"Surely you have some idea right?" Adam pressed.

"No seriously there's no way of knowing. We could all be dead by then or perfectly healthy. That's the thing about free will, it can be a bitch to predict when the script is flipped on it's head. Assuming that I'm still around though I'll be heading east to the capital wasteland. Will probably have quite a few interesting encounters along the way since that is on the other side of the continent." I say with a shrug.

"And I will be along for the ride." Adam said in understanding.

"More likely than not. Who knows?" I say casually.

Right after I finished saying that the doors of the Lucky thirty eight opened and Jess walked out. And boy did she not look happy.

"What did you do?" she demanded.

"You'll need to be a tad more specific. I have done a lot of things." I said casually.

"After you left the Tops. You did something. House told me, says he wants to talk to you now." she said with suspicious eyes.

"I did something that would make the big jerky man himself nervous huh? Ah, so he caught THAT then. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Freeside IS basically his backyard after all. Just give me a moment will you? This won't take long." I say walking into the casino.

Jess moves to follow me but clearly House wants to keep what's spoken of between me and him as when I get to the elevator within the almost perfectly preserved interior of the building Victor stops her. I walked into the open plain elevator and hit the top button that lit up as the doors closed.-

The ride was pretty smooth honestly and for a moment I almost thought I was back on my original Earth, then the elevator stopped and the doors opened up to reveal a securitron with a woman's face on it's screen. The top floor of the Lucky thirty eight was both heavily protected and surprisingly plain all things considered. It was separated into two floors roughly. The top one had three securitrons standing guard at all times and a few pictures of things House considered personal triumphs of his on the sixties style wallpaper walls. The bottom floor wrapped around into a sort of office/lounging area with a massive computer screen set up in it's center that had a green image of House's face on it and a bookcase opposite it.-

I casually walked down the stairs steps and in front of the massive screen.

"Robert Edwin House. The big jerky man himself. I must admit I hadn't expected you to call me up here. What, did I spook you bad enough to cast off the mystique you've so carefully woven about yourself?" I asked with a chuckle.

"Jerky man? Is that supposed to be some sort of allegory to how i'm a business man?" he asked calmly.

"Oh no. I'm talking about your REAL body. Little more than dried meat at this point no? Jerky to say the least." I said with a chuckle.

"So the courier didn't exaggerate. You DO know more than you should. Curious indeed. Though as you've no doubt ascertained I did not ask to speak with you in regards to your eerie knowledge of things you shouldn't know." he said getting to business.

"You want to know about the thing I did in Freeside." I said not even bothering to hide it.

"So it wasn't mere happenstance that put you in close proximity to that object but something intentional." he said with a tone that spoke of grasping the clarification.

"I suppose that was rather hasty of me. I should have assumed you would pick up on it with your sensors. You must be terribly confused about what that data says right? Understandable really." I say with a smug tone.

"I'm over two hundred years old. Save your bravado for someone more easily impressed." He said sharply.

"Oh you are certainly old alright and pretty capable too but even you make errors. Tell me what do you even know about what I did?" I asked pointedly.

He went silent for a moment.

"You summoned something. Something with an incredibly dense energy structure. And then it flew off towards Fortification hill, no doubt with ill intent given how you dealt with Caesars Frumentari." he said seriously.

"Correct on all accounts though anyone with a functional brain who saw the same thing would have a similar understanding." I said not denying it.

"Yes, well ignoring the wrench in my plans this has caused me I am more concerned with the nature of what it was that you summoned. Plans change all the time but variables like you? Those are dangerous, beyond my predictions. I don't enjoy it when things are beyond my predictions." he said sternly.

"We can't always get what we want now can we? You have to work through proxies in a world that could have been prevented if those in power weren't idiots. And I have to live in the result. Really inconvenient by the way." I say brushing off his attempt at pressure.
