Chapter 77 - Needs a Lesson

The Free Folk of Meereen had already hailed Missandei as a hero of the slave rebellion. When Daenerys executed her, it immediately incited their public outrage.

They attacked not only Daenerys but also the Great Masters and their subordinates, triggering the current riot.

After listening to Jorah's account, Drogon also judged the cause of this riot. The Mother of Dragons' decision to kill Missandei was not wrong.

Regardless of why Missandei had privately executed that Son of the Harpy—whether out of hatred or because she believed her role in leading the rebellion made her untouchable—she had openly defied the Mother of Dragons' orders. She had privately executed a prisoner who was already scheduled for a public trial.

Whether to maintain her own authority or to uphold the justice of the law, the Mother of Dragons had to kill her.

This reminded Drogon of the scene where Robb executed the head of House Karstark. The circumstances were very similar.

However, that head of House Karstark, Rickard, had only privately executed two young prisoners. Although they were of special status, they were still just prisoners. Robb had beheaded Rickard out of what he considered to be his own sense of morality.

But what is honor worth when two armies face each other with a deep-seated grudge?

Besides, the main reason Rickard executed the prisoners in the first place was because Robb's mother, Catelyn, had released Jaime to trade him for her daughter in King's Landing.

Robb hadn't even considered who Rickard would turn to for revenge after his son's death. It was only out of sheer, unvented fury that Rickard chose to kill the prisoners.

Yet Robb, clinging to his own moral standards and ignoring the pleas of his wife, mother, and men, still beheaded Rickard, leading to the loss of half his forces.

To put it bluntly, Robb brought it on himself. Daenerys's execution of Missandei was entirely different.

The Free Folk's resentment toward Daenerys—the woman they once called "Misa"—stemmed from their own simple-mindedness. At best, they were naive, seeing the world only in terms of simple good and evil, and harboring a blind hatred for the Great Masters. At worst, they were ignorant and ungrateful.

They refused to consider why Daenerys had executed Missandei, nor did they think about the consequences of Missandei defying her Queen.

To hate the very woman who had liberated them all, simply because a rebel hero died—it seemed their "Misa" was a cheap title indeed.

*They need a good thrashing!* That was Drogon's thought about the Free Folk participating in the Meereenese riot.

After hearing the cause of the riot, Tyrion couldn't help but be reminded of the Battle of King's Landing, where he was wounded. The nobles of King's Landing, whom he had protected, not only failed to speak up for him during his trial but also blindly accused him of being a kingslayer.

Daenerys had liberated all the slaves in Meereen. Yet, simply for killing someone who deserved to die, she was hated and besieged by the vast majority of the very slaves she freed. Even Tyrion felt it was unjust for Daenerys.

Shireen sat in her chair, her small brow furrowed in thought as she considered the causes and consequences of the Meereenese riot, trying to find a solution in the books she had read.

Daenerys had originally felt a lingering guilt over killing Missandei, but after hearing Drogon's thoughts, it vanished like smoke.

She had killed the right person. She had wronged no slave in Meereen. This riot reminded her of Astapor half a month ago, making her realize once again the unpredictable nature of slaves' psychology.

Pulling her thoughts back, Daenerys let Tyrion and the others reflect in silence. She then continued the council meeting that had been interrupted by their unexpected arrival and asked Daario, "Daario, based on your experience living in Slaver's Bay, do you know the specific origins of the Harpy?"

Hearing Daenerys's question, Daario frowned in thought and said, "This organization is very mysterious. I don't know much about it either, only that it seems to have been established by the nobles of New and Old Ghis in the Bay of Grief and the slave lords of Slaver's Bay to protect their interests. It has no fixed location or supreme leader."

Daenerys nodded and was about to speak when the Council Chamber doors were suddenly pushed open. An Unsullied walked in, approached Grey Worm, and handed him a scroll.

Grey Worm passed the scroll to Barristan, who stood beside Daenerys. Barristan took the scroll, glanced at it, and noticed Varys's secret mark before handing it to Daenerys.

As Daenerys took the scroll and unfurled it, her expression grew increasingly grim. After reading it, she announced to the Council Chamber, "The Wise Master of Yunkai has secretly contacted the nobles of New and Old Ghis, preparing to attack Yunkai. Astapor will also face their simultaneous assault."

*This is a full-scale offensive!* Connecting this to today's slave riot in Meereen, Drogon knew this was a premeditated major operation.

Hearing Daenerys announce the news, the others also frowned slightly.

"Ser Jorah, what do you suggest?" Daenerys asked after the others had a moment to process the news.

"Astapor and Yunkai will need more reinforcements," Jorah said, his brow furrowed. "A thousand Unsullied alone will likely struggle to hold those cities. Meereen also needs to strengthen its defenses to prevent the Sons of the Harpy from attacking from both inside and outside."

Daenerys nodded and turned to her left. "Grey Worm, what do you think?"

"I am willing to lead the Unsullied to Yunkai or Astapor!" Grey Worm declared, his expression resolute.

"Your Majesty, Grey Worm is not suited for Yunkai or Astapor," Barristan objected after hearing Grey Worm's words. "He should stay here to protect you!" Barristan had always prioritized Daenerys's safety. "The Sons of the Harpy are targeting you. Even if we lose Yunkai and Astapor, we can always retake them."

"I have you to protect me," Daenerys replied, adding silently, *And Drogon!*

"The city of Meereen is in too much chaos," Barristan continued to argue. "If another force attacks from the outside, this pyramid will no longer be safe."

Daenerys knew Barristan meant well, but she couldn't bring herself to abandon the two thousand Unsullied still garrisoning Yunkai and Astapor. Besides, Daeron, an old vassal of her brother Rhaegar, was still in Yunkai, and she refused to let him die under her command.

After a moment's thought, Daenerys commanded, "Daario, take two thousand of the Second Sons to reinforce Astapor. Grey Worm, have High Sparrow lead two thousand Unsullied to Yunkai to help Daeron hold the city."

Daario, who longed to stay by Daenerys's side, hesitated before speaking. He knew now was not the time to refuse. "Your Majesty," he said, "I only need a thousand men. The rest of the Second Sons can remain here in Meereen to gather intelligence on the Sons of the Harpy."

The Sons of the Harpy hid among the common people of Meereen, making them nearly impossible to detect. They only donned their golden Harpy masks when carrying out assassinations.

The Unsullied had struggled to uncover their network, but the Second Sons were different. They mingled in taverns, brothels, and bathhouses—places
