But the harder she tried to think, the more the words wouldn't come, and the silence in the car grew heavier, more unbreakable. After fumbling in near desperation for a moment, she finally blurted out a question: "Wh-why were you sitting on the side of the road just now?"
In the rearview mirror, Hai Luwei was staring warily at the back of her head.
