The office fell into a loud silence instantly as Jude looked at her
Betty stared at the floor and neither of them moved
Then Betty suddenly laughed because she realized that she had been trapped and there was no way out
Her eyes were filled with tears as she laughed and for the first time since she walked into Jude's office, she felt very little
"I have always liked you", she whispered beneath her breath
Jude moved slightly, as if he knew she had said something but wasn't sure of what he heard
Betty let out a very bitter laugh
"Well, if you were thinking of what I said. There I said it", she said quietly
She wiped her eyes roughly
"I have liked you for years"
Jude remained silent as he looked at her with stunned eyes
"I knew you would never look at me that way despite all I did for you to see me and I wasn't stupid because I knew who I was", she continued
Jude sat down slowly as Betty looked away sharply
