Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The Foreclosure of Heaven

The Western Provinces were no longer screaming; they were fighting.

Reports flooded into the Imperial Palace of "The Blue Death"—a phenomenon where the Emperor's holy Ascension Teams were being found as nothing more than scorched craters in the earth. The commoners, once sheep for the slaughter, were now armed with "Black Iron Tubes" that could turn a Foundation Establishment master into a memory.

Deep within the Forbidden City, the Great Yan Emperor—his skin now translucent and humming with stolen vitality—did not rage. He acted. He summoned the High Priest of the Crimson Sun, a man who had lived for three hundred years and whose Qi was so dense it warped the air around him.

"Go to the North," the Emperor commanded, his voice a thousand whispers. "Bring me the head of the Merchant. And bring me the fire he uses to kill my servants."

Outpost Alpha: The Industrial Awakening

Su Chen stood on the highest watchtower of the North. He wasn't looking at the horizon; he was looking at the System.

[Contract Milestone Detected: The Sovereign's Path.] [Quest: Defend the Syndicate Heart.] [Objective: Repel the High Priest's Divine Inquisition.] [Reward: Unlock 'Automated Production' & 50,000 System Points.]

"He's coming, isn't he?" General Yan asked, standing beside Su Chen. The General's hand was resting on a new weapon—a Soul-Cracker Carbine with an integrated bayonet.

"The High Priest. A Tier 4 monster," Su Chen said. "The Gatling gun won't stop him. His shield will be too thick, and his speed will be beyond our sailors' reflexes."

"Then we retreat?"

"No," Su Chen said, a sharp, predatory light in his eyes. "We upgrade."

He accessed his 12,000 SP, plus the 8,000 he'd saved from the previous skirmishes. Total: 20,000 SP.

[Purchase: Tier 3 Fortification – The Tesla-Iron Wall.] Cost: 15,000 SP Description: Infuses the Outpost's iron plating with Qi-conductive filaments connected to the Heat-Core. Turns the entire fortress into a massive 'Negative-Frequency' conductor.

[Total SP Remaining: 5,000]

"Han Jing! Crank the Heat-Core to maximum output!" Su Chen roared into the communication pipe. "I want the walls humming! If a bird lands on our battlements, I want it vaporized!"

The Arrival of the Sun

The sky above the North suddenly turned a sickly, bruised orange. The clouds swirled into a vortex, and a man descended from the heavens, wreathed in a literal sun of crimson fire.

The High Priest didn't land. He hovered fifty feet above the Outpost gates, his eyes glowing like embers.

"Su Chen!" the Priest's voice shook the very foundation of the mountain. "You have stolen the Emperor's tithe! You have armed the vermin with sacrilege! Kneel, and I shall make your death quick."

Su Chen stepped onto the battlements, alone. He looked small against the towering figure of the Priest.

"You're late on your payments, Priest," Su Chen called out, his [Sovereign's Aura] flaring to its absolute limit, clashing against the Priest's divine pressure. "The people of the West don't owe the Emperor their souls. And you... you owe me for the gate your student broke."

"Then burn," the Priest whispered.

He raised his staff, and a pillar of crimson flame—hot enough to melt stone—descended toward the Outpost.

But as the fire hit the Syndicate walls, something impossible happened. The iron didn't melt. Instead, a web of blue lightning erupted across the surface of the Outpost. The Tesla-Iron acted as a giant lightning rod, absorbing the magical heat and channeling it directly into the ground through the Qi-conductive filaments.

"What?!" the Priest gasped, his flame sputtering.

"Your 'Magic' is just high-energy discharge," Su Chen said, signaling to the factory level. "And I just built the world's biggest battery. Thank you for the recharge."

The Counter-Strike

Su Chen didn't use a gun. He used the Outpost itself.

The blue lightning that had absorbed the Priest's fire began to concentrate at the tips of the watchtowers—the Qi-Resonance Pylons.

"Yan! Release the saturation!"

The pylons hummed with a frequency that vibrated the bones of every man in the fortress. It was the same frequency as the Soul-Cracker bullets, but scaled up a thousand times.

The High Priest's crimson shield—the pride of a three-hundred-year cultivation—shattered like glass. The "Sun" around him flickered and died. For the first time in centuries, the High Priest felt the biting, mortal cold of the North.

"Now," Su Chen said.

From the shadows of the courtyard, the Gatling Gun rose again. But this time, it was loaded with Soul-Cracker Belts.

Crank-crank-crank-crank!

A stream of glowing blue tracers lit up the twilight. The High Priest tried to fly, tried to warp the air, but the Tesla-Iron walls were acting as a "Dead Zone," grounding all his magical energy. He was just a man in a silk robe.

The lead caught him mid-air. The Soul-Cracker rounds resonated with his massive Dantian.

The explosion wasn't red; it was a blinding, holy white. The High Priest didn't just die; he became a second sun for a brief, violent second, before his energy was entirely consumed by the Syndicate's conductive walls.

The Syndicate's Manifesto

Su Chen stood in the silent aftermath, the blue sparks still dancing on his fingertips.

He looked at the surviving Iron Tusk riders, at Han Jing, and at General Yan. They weren't just looking at a boss anymore. They were looking at the man who had just foreclosed on Heaven.

"Han Jing," Su Chen said, his voice cold and clear.

"Y-yes, Master?"

"Issue a new decree. Send it to every province, every sect, and the Imperial Palace itself."

Su Chen looked toward the South, where the lights of the Empire were dimming.

"Tell them the Syndicate is no longer accepting Imperial currency. From this day forward, there is only one law in the Great Yan: The Ledger of Su Chen. If the Emperor wants his immortality back... tell him he'll have to buy it from me. At a 500% markup."
