Cherreads

Chapter 97 - 94: New Strategy.

Okay.

Okay.

You may wonder why I'm puking my guts in a pothole right now.

And the answer is obvious, I transformed into a beyblade.

Finishing my heaving. I wipe my lips with the sleeve of my cloak, there's no real puke on it, the wiping was more psychological than anything.

Just like my hand in my hair, I'm passing a hand through my hair to regulate myself. Brushing strands away from my face, my hood fell off my head when I was spinning at mach speed. My hair's pretty dry though.

Just like...

I pat the sides of my cloak. It's wet but...drier than expected for a kid that's been playing under the rain for HOURS.

Playing? What am I saying, I'M TRAINING I'M TRAINING! A dumb smile spreads on my face.

Ignore that, it's because I'm a training maniac, I'm not playing I swear.

In any case.

Why is my cloak dry?

Pulling it up and looking at it for a second. I get it. Fuck.

I spinned really fast.

I was kinda like a dog after a shower or after walking under the rain. When they shake their body around and water splatters everywhere. Well, my ultimate technique -THAT REALLY SHOULDN'T BE DONE A LOT MAKES ME WANNA PUKE!- to stop my skating have the same effect apparently.

I could transform the inside of a dry home into a wet mess that would dry up in an hour, yes, but still annoying.

Putting my hands on my waist and looking up at the evening sky, I take a deep breath, a deeeeep fucking breath.

Fuck.

That was something.

Well, I can scratch "mobility/escape tool" out of my magic training.

Actually?

Is it even just an escape and mobility tool?

Because...

I frown and palm my back, only to feel my crossbow, fuck, I almost forgot it was stuck there.

And to be honest. I shouldn't considering how hard it digs into my back whenever I fall on it.

Thankfully, it's a sturdy crossbow so it's fine. But still! I'M NOT STURDY ME!

....well, okay, considering my pain resistance, it kinda make sense I forgot about it.

In any case. That's not only a mobility tool, because...uh, I can still stuck to things.

And I forgot about that.

Look, when I figured that I could slide instead of sticking? Kinda forgot about the whole sticking shit, even if that's cool, not gonna lie, but sliding on things feels way easier and waaaaay funnier, and waaaaay more useful for me.

Sticking can help me hide. And find better angles to shoot from. And...and do a shit ton of things, and, okay, I was gonna compare the usefulness of sticking and sliding and say sliding is superior, but I just realized it would be a lie, both are crazy.

I'm spider-man.

Or slime-man?

My eye twitches at that, but the more I think about it. The more it kinda makes sense.

I'm a sort of slime.

Well, a water mage.

But the way I move is slime like. Pushing against the ground and moving back, I start sliding backward like friction didn't exist, I confirm my theory once again.

I MOVE like a slime.

Well.

Not really.

Right now I'm just sliding around and chilling, so really, I'm moving like an ice skater.

But LOOK!

Pushing harder against the ground. I turn around and start climbing the ravine behind me while sliding.

Then. The difference is obvious.

The magic in my soles alternate between slick and frictionless, getting me a crazy amount of speed, and sticky and grippy, digging in the ground of the ravine and pushing myself up to keep up a constant momentum up instead of just sliding down.

See?

That's why I say I'm like a slime.

I'm sticking to things and I can MOVE through the sticking, like a slime climbing up a wall.

I stick everywhere. And I can move everywhere.

Well...guess I can't fly, or walk on water and shit but like, bro? I don't know shit about this world don't expect much from me.

Finished with the ravine, I start sliding in the field. Getting closer and closer the wall. Fuck.

I feel like a car.

I'm really fast, it's kind of crazy.

There's a farmer in front of me, two of them. They're talking to each other, zooming around them, I hear this.

"Ye-!"

The voice fades out a second later before he can even finish his word.

I'm fast.

I'm crazy fast.

That's...

Looking behind me, over my shoulder, my legs constantly moving beneath me to keep me at the same speed, I see it. The figures of the farmers, they're getting smaller and smaller and smaller and smaller until I decide to look forward again.

Again, I need to restrain my laugh to avoid breaking off my invisibility.

I love being a water mage.

Because not gonna lie, it's starting to become a theme right now.

The invisible things...uhhhh

Actually I don't know how to explain illusions yet, it would have been easier before, could say something about water reflection, or some bullshit like that. But now that I know I'm doing illusions.

Dunno?

Maybe I'm affecting people blood, since blood is filled with water, I do something in their brain that makes them unable to see me?

Or maybe that's a cantrip? Something every mage can do?

Or maybe it's some kind of mirage? A haze? I do illusions by heating water and showing mirages or...okay I don't know.

But the STICKING and SLIDING, I can explain!

The sliding is a bit obvious. Water is slick. I'm probably producing some sort of water under my soles or around my body and it makes it like I'm constantly oiled up.

...which...is a weird thing to say.

But you get it.

And the sticking is probably the principle of adhesion and cohesion bumped to the max.

Just like how water sticks to upside down surface, like water sticks to a gutter after it rains, or how water stick on the side of your shower after using it.

Water fall yes. But it also stick. And the reason it falls is because of gravity, but if I could boost those sticking attribute with magic.

Well.

It gets my sticking.

It would make sense.

I think.

I'm not sure really.

That's my current theory.

But it makes sense right?

Turning to the right and avoiding the gate with the guards, don't want them to focus and see a kid zooming in front of them like the physical law of friction was just a suggestion.

I trail the side of the baby walls -they are growing, maybe a change of name is necessary-, the ground under me barely bothered by my passing, it welcomes my slides and each push of my feet with an ease that's frankly crazy.

When I'm far away, I slowly reduce my speed. Just standing still like some kind of aura farmer. My hands behind my back as I sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide.

I almost fall and push my arms to my side and spread my legs.

Okay.

I need a bit more practice.

Sighing. I go with the boring option, just like you would do while skiing, my legs spread wide and my feet point inward, calming my momentum until I can walk normally.

When it's done. I put one hand on the wall, slick with water. Close my eyes. And trust my body.

SPIDER MAN!

Pulling myself up like spider man, my baby arm start complaining about the weight, but it stops when my other hand comes help it, sticking on the wall too, my right foot follow them too, the ball of said foot stuck on the wall and pushing myself up higher and higher and then.

It happens.

I crawl above the walls.

Like a spider.

Literally like spiderman. Right hand goes up, left foot goes up, left hand goes up, right foot goes up, it's kinda hard. Harder than crawling, but really? It's just like crawling, but on a wall, and I had lots of practice with crawling.

They call me the crawl master. Being reborn as a baby has it's perk, I'm probably a better crawler than 99% of those dumb adults that don't crawl regularly.

Losers.

Soon enough, I get above the wall, and slide down the inner walls to get inside my town.

Yes.

Slide down

Not crawl down

I just stick to the wall. Palms on the wood. Feet on the wall. And I slide down, not as FAST as I can, but similar to the slimy thingy I did when climbing up the ravine earlier, I go down, slowly, until the tip of my toe reach the ground and TADA!

I'm in!

Turning around. I leave the street I landed on and start sliding around.

I will CONSTANTLY move like that from now on.

The night closes on me, and my belly is growling for the stew I was promised, time to eat, and time to train something else with a guinea-pig I call mother.
