Monday Morning
Two days had passed since the police visited the Goodman estate. By Monday morning, the controversy surrounding Loretta Goodman had not died down.
If anything, it had grown worse.
The police statement released on Friday had failed to satisfy the public. Although the authorities had confirmed that they knew Loretta's whereabouts and had found no indication that she was under threat, they had deliberately refused to provide details about her condition.
That vague post had only opened the door for more speculation.
Then, shortly after ten in the morning, Robert and Mrs. Gladstone arrived at the police station.
A senior officer looked up when they entered his office.
"Mr. and Mrs. Gladstone?"
"Yes," Robert replied.
The officer gestured toward the seats. "Please, sit."
The two walked over and took the seats he offered them.
The officer opened a fresh file. "How can we help you?"
Robert exchanged a brief glance with his wife.
