Flipped upside down on Genise's couch, the moonbird gasped, struggling to gather itself.
"Moonbird, what happened? And what's with that look?"
"Quack. Quaack."
"Calm down and speak so I can understand."
My attempt to soothe the bird only made it flap its wings violently and screech louder. The little bird was clearly agitated, which looked odd somehow. Not only were its wings sparse, but its whole body had lost feathers and looked like a mess, indicating something was off. It seemed like…
"Moonbird."
"Quack."
"Did you gain weight?"
Or did it get swollen? Both its face and body definitely seemed bigger than before.
As I examined the moonbird, it stared at me with a dumbfounded expression and then clicked its beak.
"Right. You don't eat, so you couldn't possibly have gained weight. You must be swollen then."
