The guards brought Warwick in; I stood straight even though my stomach was in knots.
"We need to talk about Reid."
Warwick stepped inside. He waved the guards out and closed the door. "Speak, then."
"He's my mate," I said. "Holding him in that detention cell separate from me is unnecessary. Whatever he did, he did it because you've kept us locked up here against our will. He was trying to get us out. That's it. He didn't mean to…kill."
Warwick leaned against the wall, listening. I didn't wait for him to jump in.
"Look at it this way. You corner someone like that, especially after everything we've been through, and they're going to push back. It's normal behavior. It's instinct. In Reid's situation—captured, separated, treated like crap—trying to escape makes sense. Anyone would do the same."
