Chapter 139: A God? One-Shot regular, Is That It?
The four who had finally managed to break free from the suppression of the Evil Eyes were left with lingering trepidation. Although they had lost their grand army of seven hundred thousand angels, the opposing spider horde had also retreated from the field due to pure exhaustion.
Zeus felt he still had a chance. If he could just kill the crimson guy right in front of him and seize his divine core, the trip wouldn't be a total loss. An army of angels could always be rebuilt over time, but a divine core was a rare treasure that could only be stumbled upon by sheer luck.
He glared at Shirazawa. "You have officially crossed the line!"
Shirazawa flashed a wide grin, showing two rows of pearly white teeth as he hooked his finger in a mocking invitation. "Why don't you come over here and make me?"
"You wretched bug!!!" Zeus was practically bursting with rage, but his lingering sanity told him not to act rashly.
Even though the enemy was a mere Lower God and he was a powerful Middle God—a massive gulf in status—the trick they had pulled just moments ago had planted a seed of genuine fear in his heart. If all those Evil Eyes had targeted him alone, even a Middle God would have been stripped of a layer of skin. His life was far too precious to gamble with.
With that thought in mind, Zeus let out a cold snort. "Metatron, kill him! I want to see exactly what kind of backing he thinks he has!"
Receiving the absolute order, Metatron erupted in white holy flames, raising his sacred blade high as he charged straight at Shirazawa.
Watching this sequence from the rear, Sariel and Mael both flashed expressions of pure contempt. A grand Divine King didn't even have the courage to face his enemy in a direct clash. Embarrassing! Utterly embarrassing!
"Tch, so cowardly. How did a guy like that even become a Divine King?" Shirazawa remarked, his face filled with pure disdain.
"Presumptuous! You will not show disrespect to Lord Zeus!" Metatron roared in a fury, his holy light exploding outward as he swung his sacred blade down in a vicious arc.
Although this eleventh-month guardian angel representing "Covenants" was foolishly loyal, he was significantly easier on the eyes than his cowardly monarch. But that was the extent of it. An enemy was still an enemy, and Shirazawa wasn't about to show a soft heart.
Just as he was about to make a move, a flash of white light cut across his vision.
Shiro had bolted forward from his side, her white scythe cleaving through the empty air to meet Metatron's sacred blade head-on!
*Clang!*
The scythe and sacred blade collided, sending bright sparks flying across the dark landscape as the white scythe held its ground without giving an inch. The corrosive force of death clashed violently against the radiant energy of life. The dark mist ate away at the holy light, while the holy light tried to purify the darkness.
Following the time-honored tradition that the one on the left always loses a beam struggle, Shiro seamlessly shifted her positioning, sliding over to the right side of the clash. Sure enough, the wisdom of the internet never lied.
Metatron was blasted back by the sheer force of the strike, his frame smashing through consecutive rocky peaks. Shiro pursued him ruthlessly, her spider silk weaving through the air to tightly bind him before she forcefully whipped him away!
*Bang!*
Metatron cratered heavily into the ground, nearly slipping down into that massive abyssal trench. Rocks shattered and dust blanketed the area as Metatron coughed up golden blood. He struggled to push himself up, only to hear the steady sound of approaching footsteps.
Her white robes reflected the chilling glare of the lava, exuding an eerie, menacing presence. It had been an incredibly long time since she had experienced such a raw, unbridled battle. Her eyes narrowed into thin slits as she slightly bent her knees, suddenly launching herself forward.
*Boom!*
Propelling herself like a missile, her movement speed reached an absolute peak, appearing right beside Metatron in the blink of an eye. The razor-sharp edge of her blade pierced straight through his chest.
"Arrgh!" A piercing shriek rang out as half of Metatron's torso was cleanly sheared away, painting an incredibly gruesome scene. Blood spilled across the stone alongside severed limbs.
"Hehehe..." Accompanied by a faint, haunting chuckle, Shiro raised her arm, driving her scythe straight into his neck.
*Slash!* A head went flying into the air as a fountain of blood erupted. She executed a light, graceful leap to avoid getting a single drop on her clothes, seamlessly gliding back to her original position.
"You... you crazy woman..." Metatron's severed limbs twitched violently, attempting to piece themselves back together.
An entity that had stepped into the realm of gods wasn't someone who would die so easily from basic physical trauma. The three onlookers in the sky were well aware of this reality, so their expressions didn't waver much, treating it as a natural baseline for a deity.
However, they had heavily underestimated the absolute favoritism the Supreme Deity of the Underworld extended to her chosen daughter.
"You shouldn't have provoked us," Shiro said flatly, her striking eyes opening once more.
"Tremble before the power of the abyss, the ultimate melody of ruin!"
"For an insect-like existence, this is the holy grace that delivers you from eternal damnation!"
"Annihilating Evil Eye!"
The ultimate light of absolute demise erupted, completely enveloping Metatron's frame. In that singular instant, he felt the freezing touch of death close around him. It felt as if the King of the Underworld was personally beckoning him, filling his entire being with pure despair.
This wasn't some basic light of destruction; it represented the absolute divine authority belonging to a God of the Underworld. Every single source of vital essence was universally extinguished beneath this radiant glow.
"Lord Zeus, save me!!!" In his ultimate moment of despair, Metatron let out a final, pleading scream, desperately hoping his monarch would step in to save his life.
Yet, after waiting through the agonizing seconds, Zeus never made a single move. Metatron was left to face his absolute end. His true soul was thoroughly stripped from his vessel, and his body collapsed onto the scorched earth.
A Seraph... had fallen.
"Ugh!" A sharp, blinding pain made Shiro instinctively cover her left eye.
Even after her divine ascension, the backlash of the Annihilating Evil Eye was still an incredibly heavy burden to bear; if anything, the rebound had scaled up, becoming even more exaggerated. She estimated that her left eye would be completely out of commission for the next two years. This wasn't some basic physical limitation; it was deep spiritual damage affecting both her soul and mind, enough to give her a serious headache.
"Shiro, are you alright?" Shirazawa materialized by her side in an instant, gently supporting her.
Shiro slowly shook her head, indicating she was fine. She casually swept Metatron's body along with his divine core straight into her pocket dimension—this was her rightful trophy. After putting in all this grueling work, her core objective was to use a divine core to push her own strength forward.
Shirazawa directed a helpless, slightly pained glare at her, grumbling with genuine worry, "There were plenty of ways to finish him off. You didn't need to push yourself to this extreme."
She tilted her head to look at him, her deep pupils holding an unreadable, profound gaze as she remained completely silent. Being stared down like that made a cold shiver run through his chest, prompting him to ask weakly, "Why are you looking at me like that...?"
"You were the one who picked this fight, Master," she offered a playful, mischievous grin, a layer of sheer cunning flashing through her eyes. She wasn't genuinely blaming him; she simply felt that a two-versus-four dynamic was tactically unfavorable for them, so sacrificing the use of one Evil Eye to instantly eliminate a primary target was the most efficient move. With that done, the scales of victory had officially tipped in their favor.
Shirazawa froze. He felt a sudden wave of regret for not pulling a runner immediately, which had forced Shiro to shoulder this kind of intense pain. But since things had already reached this point, he decided to redirect his burning fury entirely onto that wretched Zeus.
Up in the air, the three remaining bird-men still hadn't fully recovered from the absolute shock of Metatron's sudden demise.
*Just what kind of terrifying monster did we actually provoke...*
This was a full-fledged god! A literal deity! And he had been regular one-shotted just like that?!
They exchanged wide-eyed looks of pure disbelief, seeing the absolute terror mirrored in each other's eyes. A chilling sensation they hadn't felt in eons shot straight up their spines to the crown of their heads. An attack of this caliber was something they couldn't match even if they joined forces.
Run! They had to run right now!
*Zing! Zing! Zing!*
The three of them frantically began weaving interdimensional transportation arrays, desperate to leave this coordinate. Over the course of countless millennia, they had completely forgotten the very concept of death. They were gods—magnificent entities ruling over mortal life, immortal beings who feared nothing and possessed absolute power!
But tonight... they had run straight into a hard wall, an absolute anomaly of a monster that completely defied standard common sense. Even as full-fledged gods, they couldn't stop their frames from trembling in pure, unadulterated terror when facing her. On this day, these entities finally remembered the primal dread of being thoroughly dominated by death.
"Thinking of leaving so soon?"
A crisp, incredibly pleasant voice resonated through the quiet air. A cat-eared girl clad in a traditional maid outfit materialized silently right behind the trio.
"I really didn't expect that while taking a quick vacation, I'd stumble into an opportunity to cleanly wrap up my quarterly performance targets. Life is truly an unpredictable trip, isn't it?"
Maid-chan's eerie, mocking words sent a violent shiver down the spines of the remaining three gods.
