Deep beneath the depths of Konoha, where only the longest and deepest of roots could hope to reach, Danzo sat behind his desk.
His face was impassive, pen in hand as he looked at a large stack of papers. Status reports of his loyal troops, mission reports, monetary updates and gathered information on many specific targets of interest.
All that and more. And yet, not a single one had been moved from the pile, and the fingers of his other hand, hidden deep within a sealed brace that not even the Hyuuga themselves could detect, drummed the insides of the brace tensely, agitatedly.
'Today is the day.' he thought, mind far away. Focused instead of on his work, on his greatest rival, and his truest friend.
The man whom would die today. Whom he would not lift a single finger to help. Because, for the Leaf to truly flourish in this new age, Hiruzen unfortunately could not be allowed to linger on as Hokage.
He was much too soft hearted. He did not have the steel required in his bones required for the Leaf to truly stand at the top any longer.
Originally, he believed it would have to be him to take over and lead the Leaf to greatness, but a greater candidate had surfaced.
One whom needed to take the seat as soon as possible and have time to settle into his role and learn what it meant to be in that position, before things truly kicked off as they would in the future. There was no doubt in his mind, war approached. They had lost the Sand, as he predicted would happen, and of course the Cloud and the Stone were ever pushing for greater military strength, doggedly hungering for the position of the greatest ninja village and wrothed with envy over the Leaf's greatness.
Only one had the strength necessary to kick those rabid dogs back down where they belonged, in the mud. And take all they were worth from them with an iron fist.
Speaking of;
"Should you not be at the stadium? I hear you're match is the very first." Danzo suddenly said.
Behind him, casually reclined across the wall and spitting in the face of gravity itself, Daiki Yurei raised an eyebrow, "I am." he said simply.
Danzo nodded simply, "A clone, I see, I couldn't even tell." he said in honest praise. In fact, he had no idea how long the boy had been there. He'd seen nothing, he'd sensed nothing, and he'd heard nothing. It was only a subtle smell that tipped him off.
And he had no idea how the boy even knew of this place. There were hundreds of metres below ground, and the entire Root compound this though, built into the very roots of Konoha, were covered in the very seals that hid the personal training grounds of the Hokage within the Hokage mountain.
Just more testament to the boys greatness indeed.
Foolish though, in the end he was still young. But, this presented an opportunity for him. The sharingan flared underneath his bandaged eye, as he slowly swivelled around in his chair, 'Just a few mental nudges to perfect him, when the clone dispels, the effects will return to the original and-' his thoughts were abruptly cut off and his jaw almost fell slack in shock, as he found himself staring into two pairs of scarlet red eyes, three tomoe lazily spinning in each eye.
The Sharingan!?
How!?
While his thoughts raced inwardly, his face outwards was impassive, showing not a sign of his shock beyond the tightening of one eyebrow, "You…gave up your remarkable Shinkugan for the Sharingan?" he couldn't help but ask. For all the power of the Sharingan, the benefits of the Shinkugan such as completely hiding his chakra made it vastly more-
Wait.
'I still can't sense his chakra.' he realised.
"No, I just combined them." Daiki smirked at him, casually resting his chin atop his palm as he stared down at Danzo, like a vast winged eagle looking down upon a weak rabbit.
He did not explain, nor would he or need to. Danzo had no idea how such a thing was possible, combining two doujutsu!?
Yet, it was just further proof in the end that the boy was truly the best Hokage they could hope for. How much of his abilities and strength had he truly hidden under that veneer of boastful lustful youthful arrogance?
"May I ask, what brings you here, Daiki-kun?" he smiled pleasantly at the boy, truly impressed, truly awed.
And truly happy.
It had been a long time since he'd felt such joy in the potential of one from their village.
"Orochimaru," Daiki said simply, raising a brow at his tone, no doubt somewhat confused at his reception considering what kind of reputation the young man must have heard about him. But that single motion, was power in of itself as a dense timber green chakra exploded from his body, a wave of pure power that made the entire room tremble, sent his desk flying and papers scattered everywhere. Danzo had to secure his seat to the ground with chakra to stop himself from being launched back as well. The ground beneath him cracked and splintered, and the very walls, bedrock deep under ground and enhanced with seals trembled, "I see you're not mobilizing at all to stop him."
It was an accusation and a threat all in one. 'Such dense potent chakra!' he thought. It reminded him of his teacher, Tobirama Senju. It was such a nostalgic feeling. And this was from a single clone! it almost brought a tear to his single shown eye.
Almost.
"Are you here to kill me?" Danzo asked simply. He did not think it was, if he was, the boy would have come himself. Unless he thought a clone was enough to kill him? More arrogance, or was he that sure of his strength?
"Not yet." the boy said simply, making him raise a brow at the statement that came off as fact from the boy.
