Chapter 30 - Chapter 29

Raven didn't say anything more after the nod and neither did I. I kept my eyes trained on her, trying to think about what to say, what to ask.

Beast Boy: Uummm…

At some point, someone spoke up.

Beast Boy: This is getting awkward guys.

He said with a wry smile and made me snap out of it.

Voranis: So ms Raven, if at all possible, I would like to speak with you.

Raven: That makes two of us.

She gave another nod.

Starfire: Great, we'll give you some space.

She dragged Jaime and Beast Boy away. It was likely that she knew some things about me.

Voranis: First of all, I want to thank you again for helping me. Secondly, I would like to know how you did it. And also, what did you do to me back at the dock?

I've never felt anything like that before and it was honestly worrying me.

"To incapacitate me like that…it's dangerous."

Raven: What happened at the dock surprised me as well. While you were unconscious, I looked into some things.

She continued.

Raven: It seems part of our powers resonate with each other. This created an imbalance inside you which was most likely what knocked out.

She paused for a bit, letting her words sink in.

Raven: As for just now, I controlled my output so that it wouldn't overwhelm you.

Voranis: Ok, but how did you know how to help me? You balanced my powers so easily. Have you done this before?

It was weird, like she could control part of me like closing or opening a valve.

My words made her hesitate.

Raven: Let's just say I am familiar with the concept of control or lack of it. But also, as an empath, I could sense your feelings like they were a small sun in the middle of the night.

This caught me off guard but she continued.

Raven: The loss you feel, your grief…It's not healthy to bottle them up like that. You need to feel them and pass through-

Voranis: Stop! My feelings are perfectly normal, it's all under control.

I interrupted her without thinking.

Voranis: It all happened in the past.

Her apathetic expression changed to something a bit warmer. She has seen me just now, my mind and powers going haywire.

Raven: I told you I'm an empath, you're not fooling anyone but yourself. I don't know what you went through, but it's normal to feel like that. You need to talk to someone, it will help a lot.

Voranis: That's great and all, but I don't have anyone to talk to.

The image of a particular blonde woman flashed in my mind for a split second.

Voranis: Besides, I just need to meditate and my powers will be under control.

Raven: How's that working out for you?

Voranis: Not that great.

I murmured under my breath.

Raven: I can assist you with meditation every now and then, if you'd like to.

She gave me a genuine smile.

Raven: I know what it's like to battle your inner demons.

Her words got me thinking.

"She looks like she genuinely wants to help me."

After mulling over her suggestion, I decided to accept her help.

Voranis: I would really appreciate your help.

She nodded.

Raven: Rest a bit for now. Every room has its own bathroom so having a bath to relax is not a bad idea.

She led me to my room and left me to my own devices.
