"I'll be back in a few minutes," I dodged Ivan's arms, laughing as he pouted.
"I'll come with you." He hurried after me, getting us funny looks from people paying for their gas.
"Ivan, I can go to the bathroom by myself."
"But I should be there with you. I don't like you being in there alone."
This was getting ridiculous.
"Ivan, it's the women's bathroom. You're not allowed." I pushed at his chest, a pointless act. Why did he have to be made of concrete?
'Not that you mind that the rest of the time.'
"It's California; they won't care."
"You're pathetic," I teased, laughing before turning to leave, but he snaked his arm around my waist, pulling me back around. "Ivan…"
"I know, I know. It's sad, but I know I'll miss you." We were out of the way between the motor oils and beers, but he whispered as if someone could hear us. "I just want you to be safe."
"I'm just going to freshen up. Ten minutes at most."
