"Mr. President," the assistant asked again, "are we really not going to make the Peacock River information public?"
Nathan Leafcastle picked up his knife and fork and sliced the egg on his plate in half.
"I've made a promise to Vera. Of course, I can't break my word."
"Well..." Helplessness crossed the assistant's face. "That would be such a pity."
A cold smile touched Nathan Leafcastle's lips.
"Just because we won't disclose the information doesn't mean others won't. I only promised Vera that the information wouldn't be leaked by me. If others want to disclose it, that has nothing to do with me."
Realizing what he meant, the assistant grinned, breaking into laughter.
After taking a taxi to the Ashton Building, Vera Wave found a public phone and dialed Merlin Bradley's cellphone number.
"I was just looking for you! What happened last night?"
Instead of answering, Vera asked, "Did I leave my bag at your place?"
"It's here."
