Chapter 43 - cursed slaves.

"Damon. You're awake." Shouted a familiar voice.

Hearing Gavin voice snapped him back to reality.

"Hahaaaaa."

Gavin hugged him tight for a few seconds looked at him, and hugged him again.

"I thought you would never wake up, It's great to have you back. How are you feeling. Do your body feel normal. Is their anything wrong. You must be thirsty. Be right back, I'll get you some water." He said rushing off.

Damon was confused. It was too much going on. First the screen messages and now Gavin. He didn't know what happened or had no clue where he was.

"Ok, calm down, everything is fine. Let's just get a understanding of what's going on. Yea, that'll settle this anxiety." He said to himself.

Gavin ran back to the room with a large glass of water, after drinking a little, he went straight to questioning Gavin.

After a few minutes of discussing. He understood a few things.

"So yea , You've been asleep for two days. Your wounds healed from that rain of yours, that's a pretty unique skill you have."

"I couldn't just leave you on the street, so you've been at my home."

"I hope you don't mind. I had to get you out of those ripped up, bloody clothes. I think the brown linen looks good on you."

Damon looked at him for a moment, he knew Gavin had to be a new guard because he knew every guard in Capetown. He hadn't seen Gavin until that day.

"Surely the other guards told him about me." He thought before speaking.

"Why, why are you doing all of this. You could have left me on the street. That's what most people would have done in this town."

Gavin twisted his lips for a moment contemplating.

"Well it's simple. You needed my help. Plus I'm a man of my word, I said I would help you back in the alley and so here we are."

Damon squinted at him trying to decide if this was some type of trick when they heard a loud growling noise.

"That's no surprise, my stomach would be growling too if I hadn't ate in two days. I'll prepare you something to eat. Until it's finish feel free to relax or look around. It's not much, but it's home."

Damon looked around the room for a moment as Gavin left.

"Maybe not much to you, but for someone like me It's great." He thought looking at the nice wardrobe dresser and pushing on the soft comfortable bed.

The room didn't have much furniture and he could tell it was simply a spare bedroom. It did have a large walk in closet which was empty, but clean.

A hour passed and he had went over the system message still digesting the past and present events. No matter if he fully believed it was real or not. He knew sitting around wasn't going to help if it was real.

When the food was done, Damon and Gavin ate and conversed, mostly about the day everything happened. Gavin apologized to him so many times he couldn't count. Afterwards.... Damon went back to the room to relax a bit.

It was a couple hours away from daybreak, and Damon decided to get more rest. He had a long day ahead of him and Gavin offered for him to stay a while longer.

Unfortunately he couldn't sleep as he was itching to put one of his new skills to the test.

"Cumulus."

Appearing in front of him was a small patch of clouds. It was like he pulled the clouds from the sky and shrunk them. They weren't attached to each other and simply floated in the air.

It looked like fluffy cotton candy. It's flat grey bottom and puffy white top shifted slowly into multiple shapes.

Damon eyes were in awe. To be able to create clouds within his space instead of them being 300 meters up in the sky was something he never imagined.

It didn't take him long to understand how to control it. With a simple thought he could make it go in any direction.

"Ok, let's try this."

The cumulus cloud moved and began shaping into a sphere. A perfect circle like a snow globe.

The clouds still constantly moved within the the sphere, as the outer layer resembled glass. He went to grab it and felt it was solid, and hard as a diamond or stone. Releasing it, the clouds went back to normal.

Touching it again it looked fluffy and his hand swiped right through it like air. He could feel the moisture, almost like a light mist as his hand glided through.

"Interesting. Once I shape it, not only it's form change but it's make up feels completely different. Its hard enough to be a weapon or an attack maybe."

He then tried to make the small cloud produce rain which didn't work. Instead he heard heavy rain outside and so he stopped it for fear of drawing attention.

"Hmmm, so what's the deal. I can create rainfall only when their in the sky, or is it a height requirement. I'll have to do more testing later, for now I'll just practice."

Ding!

[Two hour cloud shaping completed.]

He had completed his first task and it didn't seem too difficult. The cumulus cloud was very easy to shape, he could even turn it into weapons. He tried replicating himself and it didn't work.

He began stretching his body but mainly his legs preparing to step outside for a run. He had practiced till day break. Damon headed to tell Gavin when two other people near the front door could be seen.

Gavin eyes were a little moist as he turned hearing Damon walk in. It was the same man as before who refused to help Damon when he was near death. Also accompanying him was a man with brown spikey hair with a patch over one eye.

"Captain Isaac! I've done nothing wrong. I promise." Damon blurted out holding his arms up.

"Relax street rat, I'm not here for you. I just informed Gavin that the remains of Baily Tagworth was found this morning. Although i heard you were on the brink of death and would most likely die."

"That's true captain, I was able to help him. His wounds weren't as terrible as they looked." Gavin said.

Captain Isaac eyes met with his third in command for a moment and then Damon and Gavin.

"I was going to report Damons recovery once I was sure he would make it. He only recently awoke sir."

"I see. Well try not to get involved in any more beast waves. Their beginning to infiltrate the city at a fast and frequent rate. Until we figure out how, my advice to you is to remain at one of the shelters."

"Well Captain, I actually was going to take Damon in, He can stay with me for a while. "

"Hmmm. That is your choice, however you're new here rookie. I wouldn't get so attached, Damon is a special case, a cursed one. He's just had a little more luck than the previous ones"

"Oh, and you may take alot of criticism from the towns people for helping him. Some of them can even be a little rough so watch yourself. Wouldn't want the rookie to die his first week here now would we." The bald man called Azel said.

"Enough Azel, leave the boy alone." Captain Issac spoke.

"Ah...yes sir."

They left right after and Damon was sitting with his head hanging down. He couldn't believe Baily was dead. Apart of him blamed himself and another part of him didn't as he told Baily to stick together, but he didn't listen.

He didn't want to seem heartless, but he had to push it aside for now. He had things to do or he was going to join Baily in eight weeks.

He also thought about Azel last words about, Gavin taking the heat for helping him.

"He's right Gavin. Thank you for all you've done, but it's best if I just leave for good. I am a cursed slave after all. I'll only bring you misfortune and death, I'm sorry."

"Are you kidding me, i don't care about what they say. I'm a man of my word, and you're not a slave Damon."

"Oh yeah, Well according to this i am or was." He said lifting his shirt up and turning around showing a branded scar on his back. It was a symbol of a large bird with skeleton wings.

"That's complete bull crap. It's just a brand that some twisted bastards placed on you."

"No, it's a symbol of me being someone else property. Its difficult to recall at times, but i remember most of it now. The people who took me did something to mess with my memories, I had a family once. A father and a mother, I'm not sure where we lived exactly, or their names but I do remember this wishing well fountain in the middle of a city. It was where all the kids would go to make wishes."

For some reason, certain pieces of Damon's memories of his upbringing was still missing, even after recovering the ones with Raya and Jasper.

Pieces of my memories have been coming back, even before I was saved, but...." he stopped for a second twisting his lips in thought.

"Its like all the memories I have before I was captured are mixed up and very hazy, but over the years a few returned."

"My father worked a lot, He was a herbalist. I remembered how much he loved studying wild plants. My mother was a great healer, The best in our town. I was around six or seven years old back then."

"Anyway, all of a sudden hundreds of kids started to come up missing from all over. Mostly in small towns, I remember my mother staying by my side alot more when those things were happening."

What Damon was recalling was memories he had received over the last three years, memories before he was taken.

"Wait, I remember that time all too well. It wasn't hundreds of kids, no In truth it was a couple thousand kids."

Gavin took off down the hallway entering a room and coming back shortly with a large book in his hands. He looked at it for a while as he sat next to Damon.

"Kids younger than you, from newborns to the age of 12 went missing. I know this because my little sister was one of them. She was seven years old at the time. I was off doing my duties on becoming a Soul master."

"I was doing well. I was seventeen at the time of recruitment. Anyway my parents were slaughtered like pigs and my little sister had been taken or presumed dead."

"I stopped pursuing my dream of being a soul master and joing a guild. Instead i did my best to find her. I went from city to city collecting information, Names, times and dates."

As he spoke, he flipped through the pages searching.

"What is your full name."

"Damon blade."

Afterwards, Gavin pointed at a name in his book that read.

Name - Damon Blade

Age- Ten years old

Father name - Leon blade

Mother name - Jessica Blade

Time missing - two years.

Residence - Ash village

"It says two years because I haven't been updating it. I know you've been on the street since 10 years old." Gavin said, but Damon was focused on something else.

"Jessica and Leon Blade " he mumbled, the names didn't ring a bell for him, and he didn't feel happy like he thought he would learning their names. He guessed the memory wiping did more damage than he initially thought. Either that, or over the years, he simply buried the thought of them in his head.

Damon couldn't believe what he was seeing, It wasn't just his name but many other names in the book.
