AUDREY
It's raining hard and it's almost no visibility. Fuck it.
"I can't go outside" I murmured. I am at home and having the best moment of my life. Classes are cancelled.
"Audrey!" I ignored my brother. For sure he just want to play video game with me since Carter couldn't make it today. I'm not going to play video games with him again. He's a nut.
"Audrey!" he yelled again. I run to my bed and cover myself, faking a sleep. Well, I'd rather sleep. I heard a bang in my door. Still, not budging. Nah. After few minutes I heard his footsteps walking away and heard few familiar voices down the first floor. Oh my, Carter's here, with Evan and Kirko. I covered my face with my pillow and let out a little scream as they call it.
I am always having a difficult time around too many people. I got easily overstimulated by things. Too many talks, and I'm definitely out. I stood up and pick my earplugs. I'm about to go back to my bed when I saw the cat outside. The pretty black cat. He's staring at me. Aww. That's too cute. Then, stupid me. Remember, it's raining. I immediately go down, in my sleeping gown--not remembering that there are visitors. I just run passed them then go outside holding a big umbrella.
"Hey, kitty...it's raining come on in?" I calmly said to the cat. Of course we are not expecting this creature to talk back are we? no. I picked it up in my arms and take it inside. And too busy hugging the pretty cat when I stop in the middle of the hallway when I saw the boys--Carter, Evan and Kirko looking at me. Like, staring at me in disbelief.
"Hi?" I said, awkwardly. Then they looked down on the cat I'm holding. I swear I saw how quickly Kirko jaw clench then looked away at the cat. It's like he is pissed at the cat I'm holding.
"..uhm, hello" Evan greeting me awkwardly.
"Is that your cat?" Carter asked. Not smiling at all. I shake my head and said no.
"Audrey---oh my, you took the cat?" Harvey said as he entered the living room. He's holding a plate full of burgers. I made a face. These men, have big appetite. I cannot, fathom how they can digest that much of a food.
"Yes. It's just around the corner and it's raining..." I said. Slightly petting the cat in my arms.
"Just..be careful. The cat might bite you.." Carter said. I saw him giving the cat a side eye. I just ignored them and go upstairs after saying yes. It took a few minutes before I heard them starting talking.
I took the cat in the bathroom, inside my room. I get it a fresh towel and started to dry it's fur. I stared at the cat's eye. It's pretty.
"Are you hungry?" I asked. It started meowing at that moment.
After feeding the cat. I made it's sleeping place beside my bed. I make the small pillow his bed. I laugh when it started scratching the pillow. Damn, those claws will surely cut through skin. After I took a bath, I go to bed and sleep like a baby.
I woke up the next morning the cat is gone.
---
"Well, what do you expect?" Carter said laughing in a tone of "I told you so". I snorted.
"..." I didn't talk to him the whole time we are in the same car. Of course, he is driving. He's looking at the mirror to check on me at the back seat but I always look away.
"Don't wander around without me, Snow white" Harvey said and I just give him a judging look. Am I a kid? Definitely not. I kept those words in my head. I don't want to have an argument here. It's not the right place to give him judging words. I just break his nose at home.
The first thing I notice at the classroom is Dylan. He's here. And he is looking outside the window. It's sunny outside and he looked annoyed.
"Afraid of the sun? what are you a vampire?" I joked as I entered the empty classroom, where it's only Dylan and I in it. He gave me the stare and raised his eyebrow at me.
"Me?" He asked innocently and pointing his finger at himself. Like he didn't know I was talking to him.
"No, I'm talking to the wall" I said sarcastically. He just smirked as I sat down at my appointed seat.
"What do you take me for? a bloodsucking monster?" he said, making that pitiful face. He's still beautiful. In my eyes. I look away and started taking out my books and pens. I am about to answer his ridiculous lines when someone enters the room and started the war of nasty tampers.
"Of course you are, you are denying it?" Carter said and throw his bag on his chair. He put his hands inside his pockets. Looks still annoyed to me.
"Oh! good heavens, it hurts me to the core" Dylan said. Acting. He clutch his chest. I saw Carter clench his jaw. I throw a dirty look on Dylan.
"Fuck you!" Carter said.
"I don't need another nut job" I said to both men. "Take your trashy jokes outside the room, it's pretty damn annoying" I said.
After they small sweet moments. They went both back to their seats and stop bickering like each other doesn't exist. So, I am. I kept my head focus on today's lesson.
After the class, I went directly to cafeteria and saw my brother talking to some blonde and that's my cue to walk back and go the hell where ever since he is having a me time. I don't ever want to stood between him and her someone else. I went out the university and took a cab. I went to the nearest coffee shop. It's one block away when I stop.
I saw a crowd of people near the side road. There's a police officer. He's looking down below the tree roots. I felt my stomach turn when I saw what he was looking at.
A dead body. Tattered.
"Audrey!" I almost jump in shocked when someone speak beside me. Kirko.
"Oh my...you almost gave me a heart attack, jerk" I said. He laugh.
"Sorry, princess. But I called you twice" He defended himself.
"Whatever" I retorted.
"What's this?" He asked.
"I don't know--" we looked back to the dead body. "Poor, fella" I said.
"Yeah, poor fella, Looks like a minced meat" he commented. I looked at him and rolled my eyes.
"Is that my son?!" All the bystanders looked at the direction where the woman screaming is coming from. It's an old woman. She's crying her eyes out even when she hasn't seen the body yet. When she run towards the body the police stopped her before entering the scene. "Is it my son?! tell me, is it my son? oh no!" she said hysterically.
The scene baffled me. I lost my words. It's heartbreaking.
"Ma'am, we are not yet sure if this is your missing son---"
"Let me take a look! My son?! is it my son!" the woman did not stop from fleeing in the police arms. She got a chance and run for it. I didn't know what happened next because Kirko hold my elbows and get me out of there. I didn't even protest.
"Let's get out of here. You looked pretty shocked to me" he said and guide me inside the coffee shop.
"What the fuck is that?" I asked. "Is the dead body possibly the missing son of that woman?" Kirko have our orders and we took our seats. He shrugged.
"I don't know, but I suggest you don't go wander around here on your own" he said.
"Why? I'm not a kid" I said. Half laughing. He looked at me like he's judging me from head to toe.
"Are you serious? age is just a number when it comes to bad people. Baby, kid, young or old. When a bad people wants to harm you. That's just a number. There is no exception. You hear me? Don't wander around too naively" he said handing me the coffee he took from the counter.
