The night air felt colder near the warehouse.
Vanessa crouched beside the chain-link fence, studying the building carefully. The structure was massive—old steel walls, broken windows near the roof, and dim lights glowing from inside.
Definitely active.
Marco checked his watch.
"Romano's guards rotate every ten minutes."
Vanessa glanced at him.
"You've done this before."
Marco smirked.
"A few times."
Gale stood beside them, silent.
His eyes moved across the warehouse, calculating distances, entrances, shadows.
Vanessa noticed how still he became when he was planning something.
Like a predator before a strike.
"Side entrance," Gale said quietly.
He pointed toward the back corner of the building.
Vanessa followed his finger.
A rusted metal door.
No guards.
"That's too easy," she whispered.
Marco nodded.
"It's probably alarmed."
Gale began walking anyway.
Vanessa immediately followed.
"Of course you're going in."
Marco sighed and followed them.
"You two are going to get me killed."
They moved along the fence quietly until they reached a small gap in the wire.
Marco pulled it open.
"You see?" Vanessa whispered.
"Your security really does have blind spots."
Marco gave her a look.
"This one is intentional."
"Of course it is."
They slipped through the opening.
The ground inside the compound was gravel, forcing them to move slower to avoid making noise.
Vanessa kept her eyes on the guards near the main entrance.
Two of them smoked while talking.
Neither looked their way.
Lucky.
They reached the side door.
Marco pulled out a small device from his pocket.
Vanessa raised an eyebrow.
"You carry lock-breaking tools?"
"Professional habit."
He worked quickly on the door panel.
A soft click echoed.
The door opened.
Vanessa whispered, "Impressive."
Marco grinned.
"Thank you."
They slipped inside.
The warehouse smelled like oil and dust.
Dim yellow lights hung from the ceiling.
Crates filled the space.
And voices echoed from deeper inside the building.
Vanessa pressed herself against a stack of boxes and listened.
"…this changes the balance."
That voice was unfamiliar.
Cold.
Older.
Romano answered angrily.
"You told me De Luca wouldn't retaliate this quickly."
Vanessa glanced at Gale.
His expression remained calm.
But his eyes sharpened.
The third voice spoke.
Smooth.
Controlled.
"That is why the Circle exists."
Vanessa froze slightly.
The Circle.
They were really here.
She slowly leaned forward to peek through the gap between crates.
Three men stood near the center of the warehouse.
Romano.
Two strangers in dark suits.
Both looked powerful.
One of them turned slightly.
Vanessa immediately pulled back.
"What?" Marco whispered.
"That man."
"Which one?"
"The tall one."
Marco carefully peeked.
Then his expression changed.
"Oh."
Vanessa frowned.
"You know him?"
Marco nodded slowly.
"That's Sebastian Vale."
Vanessa waited.
Marco whispered quietly—
"He's one of the leaders of the Circle."
Vanessa felt the tension instantly rise.
So this wasn't just a meeting.
This was something bigger.
Much bigger.
She glanced at Gale.
"You expected Romano."
"Yes."
"But not them."
"No."
Inside the warehouse, Romano spoke again.
"You promised me protection."
Sebastian Vale smiled calmly.
"We promised opportunity."
Romano slammed his hand against the table.
"De Luca attacked my men tonight!"
Sebastian didn't look concerned.
"And?"
Romano looked furious.
"And he will come for me next."
Sebastian leaned forward slightly.
"That is the nature of power."
Vanessa watched carefully.
Romano was afraid.
But Sebastian Vale wasn't.
In fact—
He looked almost amused.
Sebastian spoke again.
"Which is why we should remove the problem."
Romano's eyes narrowed.
"You mean Gale."
Sebastian shook his head slowly.
"No."
Vanessa felt her pulse quicken.
Then Sebastian finished the sentence.
"The detective."
Vanessa stiffened.
Romano frowned.
"Why her?"
Sebastian's smile was faint.
"Because Gale De Luca does not fear bullets."
He paused.
"But he fears losing things he values."
Romano's expression slowly changed.
Understanding.
"You think she's the key."
Sebastian nodded.
"Everyone has a weakness."
Vanessa felt Gale's presence shift beside her.
His body had gone completely still.
Dangerously still.
Marco whispered quietly.
"This just got worse."
Vanessa leaned closer to Gale.
"They're talking about kidnapping me."
"Yes."
"Again."
"Yes."
Vanessa exhaled slowly.
"Well."
She checked the gun inside her jacket.
"At least I'm popular."
Marco stared at her.
"You're joking right now?"
Vanessa smiled slightly.
"It helps with the nerves."
Inside the warehouse, Romano asked another question.
"And if we capture her?"
Sebastian's voice remained calm.
"Then Gale De Luca will come to us."
Romano's lips curled slightly.
"And then we kill him."
Sebastian didn't answer.
He simply smiled.
Vanessa slowly looked at Gale.
His expression had changed.
Not angry.
Not scared.
Something colder.
More dangerous.
She whispered quietly.
"They're planning to bait you."
Gale's eyes remained fixed on the meeting ahead.
"Yes."
Vanessa tilted her head.
"So what do we do?"
Gale's voice dropped to a low whisper.
"We change the game."
Marco frowned.
"How?"
Gale finally turned toward them.
And for the first time that night—
He smiled.
But it wasn't the calm smile Vanessa had seen before.
It was something sharper.
More ruthless.
"By letting them think their plan is working."
Vanessa's eyes gleamed slightly.
"You want them to kidnap me."
Marco nearly choked.
"Absolutely not."
But Vanessa looked excited.
"This could work."
Marco stared at both of them.
"You two are insane."
Vanessa leaned closer to Gale.
"So what's the next move?"
Gale glanced toward the warehouse floor again.
Then he said quietly—
"We start the trap."
And suddenly—
Vanessa realized something terrifying.
The war between Gale De Luca and the Circle had just begun.
And she was about to become the most important piece on the board.
