A day had passed since they arrived at the 16th layer of the labyrinth, the Ember Maze. Because of the intense heat, Darian had suggested they rest for the night. He chose the cave where they had materialized, since there were barely any Kardia-beasts lurking nearby, and the temperature there was much cooler than in the deeper parts of this layer.
The next morning, they resumed their journey. Aside from the cave, the 16th layer was surprisingly wide for an enclosed cave maze. It was spacious enough that they could see a flowing river of molten magma beside the walkable paths, though every so often they spotted wide puddles of lava that could not be crossed on foot. Luckily, traveling by flight posed no issue this time, so they flew through most of the 16th layer. It was more than spacious enough to move through smoothly.
