Kikaru accepted the black utility suit from the supply soldier and checked the seams before putting it on.
The material was lighter than it looked. Thin plates sat under the fabric at the chest, ribs, shoulders, and thighs. Adaptive camouflage shimmered once when she moved, then settled into the same dull black as the rest of Platoon Juliet's staging gear.
Colby pulled at his collar. "I am trying to decide whether this makes me feel safer or more disposable."
Paul adjusted his gloves. "Both can be true if command is efficient."
Captain Jiece stood in front of them again. "The suit will keep you from standing out at a glance. It will not make you soldiers, and it will not make my people trust you."
Kikaru met his stare. "Understood, Captain, and we will follow Juliet's command structure unless a shard user forces direct engagement."
"That answer is good enough for now," Jiece said. "Any last questions before the dropships finish cycling?"
