Kai's eyes settled on Arc's hand on my knee and my body leaning against the Delta.
Arc scrambled off the floor and reached for my hand, trying to pull me up, but Kai's voice sounded again, snappier and angrier. "Don't touch her."
"Kai, I was just - " Arc began to explain, but Kai's gaze shut him off. What the fuck was wrong with him?
"Leave."
Arc opened his mouth to argue, but Kai was faster. "Now, Arc." His Alpha tone was imbued in the command. I stiffened, eyes wide.
The general consensus about Kai had always been that although he was stern, he never treated anyone beneath him without respect. His reaction to Arc made no sense, especially because Arc spoke highly of him, not just because of his Alpha status but because Kai was a true friend.
Arc looked at me, then back at Kai, narrowing his eyes as he walked past him. Kai stood straighter, staring Arc down.
"You can't do that!" I said the moment Arc left.
"Do what?" he asked through gritted teeth.
