"Five years ago," I started and gasped a little, and I could feel the small catch in my throat as I remembered it. The confusion, the fear, the way everything had shifted in one single moment. I took a slow breath, trying to steady myself, and glanced at him. He was still looking at me, calm and patient, and that made the memory even sharper. My throat bobbed, lashes trembled as I resisted the urge to clenched my my hands.
