Chapter 36: One Game at a Time
Sunday, January 17, 2010
The morning was cold at Broadfield Stadium. Frost covered the edges of the training pitch, and the players could see their breath as they warmed up.
Niels stood near the touchline and watched the session. Crawley were preparing for their League Two match against Rochdale the next day.
Two days earlier, they had beaten Lincoln City 1–0. Max Simons had scored the only goal with a great volley. The win had taken Crawley to seventh place with 46 points.
Everyone was happy with the result, but Niels knew they couldn't relax. Rochdale were next, and the FA Cup game against Barnsley was only eight days away.
Before training started, Niels went into the boardroom for a meeting with Claire and chairman Mr. Hargreaves.
Claire had the club's latest figures in front of her.
"Lincoln's match brought in about £45,000," she said. "That's good money for us, but we've also spent a lot recently."
She looked at Niels.
