Fenris's POV,
Watching Axel break like that stirred something in me so deep it almost frightened me. I had never felt this kind of emotion for anyone in my life.
My arms tightened around him instinctively, as though I wasn't fully convinced he could feel me there, like holding him closer would make it undeniable that I wasn't going anywhere.
I was about to tell him that, if he wanted, I would do whatever it took to find out where he came from-his parents, his past, everything he had ever been denied. But before I could say a word, the door opened without a knock, cutting me off mid-thought.
Both of our heads snapped toward it at the same time, I genuinely couldn't believe this man had the audacity to come back here again.
But what hurt more than seeing him was the way Axel reacted.
The second Axel noticed him, his entire body tensed in my arms before he quickly pulled away from me, almost like he had been caught doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing.
