"The middle one is near the Engineering Department, right…?"
After some thought, the one on the lowest level near the factory definitely couldn't be chosen. After all, there were many ordinary Infected individuals who were not Rhodes Island Operators working in the factory. They gained opportunities for medical treatment and property on Rhodes Island through their labor here, so the personnel were diverse, and no one could guarantee that if someone saw this thing, it wouldn't be leaked.
Then the room next to the Greenhouse on the uppermost level was also passed over by Kanna. One reason was the same as the lowest level: as Rhodes Island's recuperation courtyard, there were also many outsiders coming and going. If the Magnemite Production Base were placed here, it would inevitably be discovered by passing patients and their families.
So, Kanna's final decision could only be the room near the Engineering Department. Because the Engineering Department is one of Rhodes Island's core departments, the area around it is restricted. Non-Rhodes Island Operators would find it very difficult to enter without an accompanying staff member.
Placing the Magnemite Production Base here, with the surrounding security, would prevent a large number of non-Rhodes Island personnel from having the opportunity to discover it.
Moreover, Magnemite, as an Electric/Steel type Pokémon, seemed quite compatible with the Engineering Department.
"Hmm, are you sure you want this one near the Engineering Department? I have to warn you that because it's close to the Engineering Department area, the environment here is the worst of the three rooms. There are often sounds of Engineering Operators testing instruments or manufacturing items, so it's not very suitable for keeping animals."
Amiya was again confused by Kanna's choice. If she were to choose, the first place to pass over, whether for raising animals or plants, would definitely be this room near the Engineering Department. The location was very awkward; it was too noisy for animals, which would severely affect their mental state. And for plants, the environment next to the Greenhouse upstairs was clearly better. Even for animals, choosing the factory area would be more advantageous than next to the Engineering Department.
But Kanna chose the one with the worst conditions. For a moment, Amiya thought Kanna was just too embarrassed to ask for the two better-conditioned places, unaware that the peculiar nature of the "creatures" Kanna intended to raise meant that the two options Amiya considered better were precisely the worst choices.
"That's right, this is the place. Oh, by the way, if you have time, come over. I'll be going on an external mission tomorrow, and I think this place is most suitable for you to manage." Kanna looked at the location of the middle room Amiya had sent, and as she walked towards it, she sent a message to Amiya.
"Okay, I'm pretty much done with my work here for now. I'll meet you at the Engineering Department entrance in ten minutes!" After Amiya finished speaking, she subconsciously opened the monitor and glanced at it, only to find no trace of any animals or plants around Kanna.
"Could it be!" Thinking of the wonders Kanna had previously displayed, Amiya had some suspicions in her heart.
"Where is Doctor Kaltsit?" Amiya turned to Priestess for information.
"Beep, Doctor Kaltsit is currently in the Medical Department, preparing for a surgery. Do you need to call her?" In just one second, Priestess provided the answer.
"No need!" Amiya pushed her current work forward. Although there was still a little more to do, her suspicion made her completely unable to concentrate on the task at hand. So, she simply stopped working, planning to meet up with Amiya, resolve the issue there, and then return to finish up.
After leaving, she first went to the adjacent Combat Office.
"Amiya! I wasn't slacking off, I was really working seriously!" The Doctor, who was truly slacking off, sprawled amidst a pile of documents, looked up when he heard the door open and saw Rhodes Island's chief supervisor, the Little Donkey he once thought was an angel, standing at the door. He instantly felt a chill down his spine, thinking Amiya had caught him slacking off.
"…Never mind. Kanna just asked me for a new room for 'breeding,' but she didn't tell me what she was breeding, and I haven't seen any living creatures around her through the surveillance. Based on my understanding of her, I suspect she's gotten something strange again. Doctor Kaltsit is preparing for surgery and it's not convenient to disturb her, so would you like to come and see?"
Amiya had caught the Doctor slacking off more than once or twice. However, ever since Doctor Kaltsit handed over all the complicated and approval-requiring external matters of Rhodes Island to the Doctor, he often stayed in the office for days without rest for work. So, occasionally taking a break was only natural.
It was precisely for this reason that she specifically called the Doctor to go with her to see Kanna, also as a chance for the Doctor to take a break from his busy schedule.
Hearing that he could go out, the Doctor shot up from his seat, a speed that made Amiya feel as if she was seeing Cerberus, hungry and lurking by the kitchen door, ready to pounce… "Let's go!" In the instant Amiya was momentarily stunned, the Doctor was already standing beside her, fully prepared. Coming back to her senses, she looked at the excited Doctor with an apologetic gaze and said.
When the two arrived at the room Amiya had arranged for Kanna, they saw Kanna standing at the doorway with a bewildered expression. Through the gap in the door, they could clearly see a strange object floating in mid-air inside the room.
"Kanna!" Amiya called out, waking up the somewhat dazed Kanna.
"Amiya and Doctor, have you had dinner yet… Oh, hey, stop messing around!" Kanna said, greeting the approaching Amiya and the Doctor, while simultaneously giving a little slap with her hand, sending the strange object floating in the air onto a nearby table.
"What is this?" As they walked closer, the two also clearly saw the "thing" that had floated back up: a small camera with a magnet attached to each side, and its lens had transformed into an eye, looking quite adorable.
"Magnemite, a type of Pokémon. Its attributes are Electric and Steel, I think. They don't need to eat; they just need to recharge their electricity to survive. This room has been modified; as long as enough electricity is provided, one Magnemite can be produced every day. Each Magnemite can evolve through training and nurturing, becoming a Magneton. Their strength is so-so, but although they don't look big, once trained, they have several powerful long-range moves that can serve as supplementary ranged output."
Kanna didn't know much about Magnemite as a Pokémon. After all, while its output was considerable, it was a glass cannon; with low HP, they could easily be taken down in battle even against opponents with type disadvantages. So, when she played the game, she rarely caught them except to complete her Pokédex.
