"Is that Uchiha the first one? Let's see his strength!"
"Sasuke looks strange… did something happen?"
"Come on, Sasuke!"
Most people's attention was fixed on Sasuke. After the Uchiha clan was exterminated, he became a legendary figure in Konoha.
Aside from the members of the chat group, almost no one paid attention to Karin. To many, she was still just a side character.
"Isn't that the girl from before… from the Uzumaki clan?"
In the stands, Orochimaru—disguised as the leader of the Sound Ninja team—grinned, a chilling amusement flashing across his face.
"Sasuke's current state puts him in a terrible position against this Uzumaki girl. I wonder if she'll surprise me… hehehe."
Right now, Orochimaru viewed Sasuke as nothing more than an experimental subject. If his talent proved insufficient, Orochimaru was ready to abandon him.
"Alright! The first round begins now. Except for the contestants, everyone else please head to the stands!" Moonlight Hayate announced, coughing as he pointed to the sides.
Before stepping into the stands, Kakashi deliberately passed by Sasuke and warned him not to use his Sharingan.
If the Curse Mark went out of control, Kakashi was prepared to rush in and stop the match.
"Damn it!" Sasuke thought, clutching the Curse Mark on his neck.
"This mark reacts to my chakra. If I'm careless and gather too much chakra, it'll seize control of me and force out everything in my body."
"In this fight, not just the Sharingan—even the most basic ninjutsu can't be used freely! My opponent is that newcomer who joined Konoha… Uzumaki Karin. I heard she's from the main branch of the Uzumaki clan, unlike Naruto."
"She acts like Itsuki's henchman most of the time, hardly noticeable… but according to Sakura, her strength shouldn't be underestimated. Even if I go all out, I can't be sure I'll win."
"Damn it. What should I do?" Sasuke's mind raced. He couldn't accept defeat.
He had to defeat strong opponents one by one—how could he fall in the first round?
"I'll have to end this quickly! She's a girl—close combat isn't her strength. If I close the distance right away and don't give her a chance to use ninjutsu, I can win with taijutsu!"
By now, everyone else had moved to the stands. Only Hayate remained in the arena with Sasuke and Karin.
"Alright!" Hayate raised his hand and coughed lightly. "The first round begins!"
Just as Sasuke had planned, he immediately pulled out several shuriken and hurled them at Karin.
At the same time, he sprinted forward, closing the gap as fast as he could.
Everyone could tell what Sasuke's plan was.
Would it succeed?
Many underestimated Karin, thinking that Sasuke's aggressive rush would overwhelm her and leave her helpless.
But Karin only smirked.
Instead of standing still, she pushed off the ground and leapt backward at an angle, instantly ruining Sasuke's plan.
"Ugh!" Sasuke suddenly groaned, stumbling forward and clutching at the Curse Mark.
His body seized, and he collapsed face-first into the dirt.
"What happened? He just fell on his own?"
"She didn't attack him—he collapsed by himself. His condition must really be bad."
"Sasuke, what the hell are you doing?!"
In the stands, the audience erupted in confusion.
Those who knew the truth either smirked or watched with serious expressions.
"So… what are you going to do now?" Itsuki leaned forward with a playful expression.
He had arranged this match—Sasuke versus Karin—knowing Sasuke had almost no chance of winning.
But Sasuke was the reincarnation of Indra's chakra. He carried the aura of a protagonist.
Itsuki wanted to see whether Sasuke could overturn the "future" he himself had fabricated.
On the field, Karin didn't press the advantage. She stood calmly, watching Sasuke struggle.
"I'll give you a moment to adjust," she said coldly. "But honestly, you should just admit defeat. Even at full strength, you wouldn't be my opponent—let alone in your injured state."
"Don't look down on me!" Sasuke roared, forcing himself upright.
His teeth clenched, his pride refusing to bend. "If you've got guts, then come at me!"
If he were uninjured, Sasuke wouldn't have taken Karin seriously at all.
Now, though, he was like a cornered tiger—wounded, but still refusing pity.
"In that case," Karin's eyes narrowed, "I'll show you the difference in our strength."
Adamantine Sealing Chains!
Golden chains erupted from her back, a dozen of them whipping toward Sasuke from every direction.
"What… what is this?!" Sasuke's eyes widened in shock.
Back in the Forest of Death, Karin had used this power against Orochimaru, but Sasuke and the others had been too far away to witness it clearly.
Before Sasuke could fully process, the chains lashed out. He tried to dodge.
"Ahh!!"
One chain clipped his cheek, making him cry out in pain.
He reacted quickly, though—slamming a hand against the ground and flipping away, narrowly escaping the encirclement.
"Damn it! These chains are so hard… it feels like metal. They could probably snap a kunai. I can't block them head-on!"
Sasuke pulled back and quickly formed hand seals, preparing a Fire Style jutsu.
But the moment he drew on chakra, the Curse Mark seared with agony. He collapsed to his knees, clutching his neck.
The jutsu fizzled, and the golden chains lashed out again. Sasuke rolled clumsily to the side, narrowly escaping another hit.
In the stands, whispers spread like wildfire.
"Sasuke's going to lose!"
"Even if he's in bad condition, this is pathetic…"
"If this is all the Uchiha name amounts to, it's disappointing."
Everyone had hoped to witness Sasuke's brilliance, but now most had already decided he was finished.
Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!!
Sasuke's face twisted with rage as he dodged, stumbling from one desperate escape to the next.
Not only were the spectators disappointed—he was disgusted with himself. This wasn't how an Uchiha should fight.
"What Curse Mark… what Orochimaru… get the hell out of my way!!"
At the breaking point, Sasuke suddenly roared. His Sharingan spun into a two-tomoe form, blazing to life.
His movements sharpened—at the very last second, he slipped through Karin's chains, evading by a hair.
And then his speed spiked.
Strange black markings flared across his body, crawling from his neck and spreading like fire.
Red light pulsed from the cursed flesh, covering half his face.
The air around him twisted—his chakra didn't simply strengthen; it erupted in a violent surge, as if his potential was being forcefully ripped open.
"Yes! That's it!" Orochimaru's eyes gleamed with twisted excitement. "Come on, Sasuke! Release it! Release your power! Show me your limit!"
