While the Wu Ke Jv Xi was emerging from its shell, Mo Fan seized the opportunity. The lightning clinging to his fist suddenly exploded.
"Take this punch!" Mo Fan roared, slamming his lightning-infused fist into the Wu Ke Jv Xi's head.
The creature was already heavily wounded—how could it withstand such a blow?!
In the next instant, its head was driven deep into the ground, its massive body trembling violently.
The lightning's destructive power surged from its head through its entire body, bringing both physical and spiritual torment. All the Wu Ke Jv Xi wanted now was for it to end quickly.
Mo Fan's right hand flared with crimson flame as he followed up with another strike aimed directly at its head.
Under the rolling heatwaves and searing fire, the Wu Ke Jv Xi finally couldn't endure anymore. Tears of relief seemed to glisten in its eyes as it took its last breath.
Standing atop the creature's back, Mo Fan waited eagerly for its essence orb to appear.
Soon enough, the orb floated out of its mouth, glowing faintly and taking the form of the Wu Ke Jv Xi itself.
At first, it seemed ready to retaliate—but after recalling the brutal beating it had just endured, it decided otherwise.
Of course, Mo Fan wasn't going to let it go. He had killed the Wu Ke Jv Xi precisely for that essence orb!
"Little Loach!" Mo Fan called out mentally.
The Little Loach understood immediately, drawing in the Wu Ke Jv Xi's soul with a faint hum.
Though it was only a broken essence orb, it was still a Commander-level one—far superior to the Servant- and Warrior-level souls Mo Fan usually absorbed.
With this essence, the Little Loach could quickly restore itself to its former state.
Li Man, who had been observing from afar, looked on in astonishment. She hadn't expected this small group to actually take down the Wu Ke Jv Xi!
It was unbelievable.
Her gaze shifted to Song Jie—his Light Element magic had made the creature let out that horrifying scream earlier.
That power... it couldn't have been simple Light Element magic. Could it have been a mental attack?
Light Element? Mental attack?
The thought unsettled her.
"What kind of monsters are these two?" Li Man muttered under her breath.
If she told anyone that these two young men had slain the Wu Ke Jv Xi, no one would believe her.
"Brother Jie, thanks!" Mo Fan said gratefully.
Song Jie nodded.
No need for thanks. You'll be calling me "brother" for real soon enough.
He smiled faintly. "Sister Li Man, the Military Mages haven't left yet, have they? How about we also collect this Commander-level creature?"
Li Man nodded. The idea was reasonable, though she hadn't contributed much in the fight, so taking a share of the profit felt awkward.
"We can sell it to your military," Song Jie added. "Just give us the payment directly when we leave."
Li Man agreed. Selling it to the military wasn't a bad idea—especially since she'd already owed Song Jie a favor earlier. This way, everyone benefitted.
"This Wu Ke Jv Xi's corpse should be pretty valuable, right?" Zhang Xiaohou asked.
"Don't worry, you'll get a share too!" Song Jie replied with a grin.
Zhang Xiaohou scratched his head awkwardly. "I didn't really help much though. I don't think I deserve a cut."
"Brother Jie already said so. Why are you still being polite?" Mo Fan teased, landing beside him.
"Alright then," Zhang Xiaohou chuckled sheepishly.
"Oh right," Mo Fan said suddenly, "there's supposed to be an Earth Element Soul Seed here too. Brother Jie and I will help you find it."
This sly fox...
Song Jie almost cursed aloud. He hadn't agreed to that! But since Mo Fan had said it out loud, he couldn't exactly back out now.
Forget it.
He was going to be Mo Fan's brother-in-law someday anyway.
The gains he'd already made today were worth far more than an Earth Element Soul Seed.
After helping Zhang Xiaohou obtain the seed, the group finally returned to Biyi City.
Mo Fan changed out of his tattered clothes, looking much more civilized again.
With both the Wu Ke Jv Xi and the Swamp Poison Centipede dead, the Military Mages stationed around Dongting Lake could finally act freely.
Because of this, Li Man had been far too busy to handle the transaction for the Commander-level corpses right away.
A few days later, when things calmed down, she found them again.
"You two have made great contributions this time," she said with a smile.
The two Commander-level beasts of Dongting Lake were gone—the military could finally relax.
For Mo Fan and Song Jie, though, the contribution didn't matter much. What mattered was the money.
When they saw tens of millions flow into their accounts, their grins said it all.
"Things have been hectic lately, so I'll head off first," Li Man said, turning away. "Let's have a meal together when we're free."
Mo Fan didn't mind. Watching her leave, he turned to Song Jie.
"Brother Jie, are you heading back to the Magic City next?"
"No rush," Song Jie said. "I have something to do with Sister Yue, so I'm not in a hurry."
"That's perfect," Mo Fan replied. "I want to go to Lin'an to check in with Xin Xia anyway."
"Then let's go together," Song Jie said easily, buying a seat on the same flight.
It took only two hours from Biyi City to Lin'an.
When they landed, Mo Fan headed straight for Zhejiang Academy, while Song Jie returned to the residence Tang Yue had arranged for him.
The moment he opened the door, he heard the sound of running water from the bathroom.
"A thief?" he muttered, frowning.
He crept toward the bathroom door and yanked it open—ready to catch the intruder red-handed.
But what he saw made his eyes widen and his breath hitch.
This was bad—very bad.
"Song Jie!!"
Tang Yue was inside, fresh from the shower and about to put on her bathrobe!
"Sister Yue, I swear it wasn't intentional this time!" Song Jie blurted, frozen in place.
"Then can you please close the door first?!" she shouted, her face flushed red with fury.
"..."
Song Jie immediately slammed the door shut.
He hadn't seen much before—but now, he'd seen everything. His heart was pounding like crazy.
Would Tang Yue kill him to keep him quiet?
Probably not… his defenses were decent. She'd have a hard time silencing him.
That thought calmed him down—just a little.
Moments later, Tang Yue sat across from him, her gaze sharp and dangerous.
"Sister Yue, I thought a thief had broken in. I didn't know it was you…" Song Jie tried to defend himself.
Tang Yue's eyes narrowed. "Help me with something, and I'll forget this ever happened."
Her tone was soft—but the threat beneath it was ice cold.
