On the beach, after fooling around for a while, Zoro finally asked:
"Sandy, if we train the way you mentioned earlier… can we really awaken Observation Haki?"
Usopp immediately panicked.
"Are you seriously going to let Sandy beat you like that!? That's way too reckless!"
Luffy grinned, "I believe in Sandy. Tell us what to do! There's no way I can't learn Observation Haki!"
Two streams of hot air puffed out of his nostrils.
Of course they acted casual on the surface, but inside they were all anxious. After all, they were about to enter the New World, and aside from Sandy, no one was actually strong enough yet.
"Hehehe…"
Sandy picked up a wooden stick with a mischievous grin.
"If you're not afraid of pain, we'll start now. Trial run first!"
DUANG—
Before Zoro even reacted, Sandy sent him flying with a single swing.
Everyone stared at Sandy in shock.
What kind of training was THAT!? They weren't even ready!
"Bastard!" Zoro shouted, getting up with a dark face.
"Can you let me prepare first!?"
Sandy shrugged, "Prepare? You think enemies wait for you to get ready? Luffy! Cover your eyes, I'm coming!!"
And thus, the brutal training began.
Luffy and Zoro endured the beatings without complaining, but Chopper was heartbroken.
"Please stop training! They're going to die!"
Sandy rolled his eyes.
"Oh shut up. I'm not even using much strength."
Sanji groaned, "Who are you fooling? You're using Armament Haki and saying you're not using strength!?"
Ignoring him, Sandy focused.
"Zoro's improving well. As for you, Luffy—don't rely on your ears. Use your feeling. Feel the subtle shifts around you…"
A moment later—
"I felt something!!"
WHACK—
Luffy got swept away by the stick again.
Training continued endlessly. It wasn't ineffective—it was just slow.
Hit after hit, the pain had numbed them, and they gradually became calm, focused. Their sensitivity to airflow, the environment, and approaching attacks improved naturally.
Before long, night fell, and Luffy and Zoro had been beaten until—
"I'm so hungry! I'M STARVING!" Luffy yelled, a huge bump on his head.
Sandy snorted, "Eat, eat… that's all you do. Why did Zoro get hit half as much as you?"
"That's because I was hungry, so I couldn't concentrate!" Luffy replied confidently.
Sandy nodded mockingly.
"Right, right… you can't get stronger on an empty stomach, huh?"
"That's exactly it!"
"Yeah, sure. Go eat."
Sandy sighed internally.
He wasn't Rayleigh—he couldn't forbid Luffy from eating unless he dodged a hundred straight hits.
And honestly, Sandy didn't really know how to teach; he was just imitating the training from the original story.
But hey—Zoro's progress proved it worked!
"Oi, Sandy. Five bottles of beer," Zoro demanded.
Sandy deadpanned, "Do I look like a beer machine? No."
"Three bottles."
"Two bottles."
"…Fine. Two bottles."
"…"
That night was quiet.
Everyone returned to the ship to rest. Zoro and Luffy slept like rocks after being beaten half dead, and Sandy had night watch.
So the little thief cat—after Sandy's subtle hint—slipped out of the cabin, and with Sandy's ability, the two instantly appeared deep in the forest.
The night wind whispered. The beach shimmered with moonlit waves and swaying trees.
Nami held onto two tree trunks, turned her head, and asked softly, "Sandy… the night is beautiful, isn't it?"
"Yeah," Sandy nodded. "The night is enchanting… but you're also very charming, Nami."
"Hmph, careful—you're about to bump into me."
"Huh? I'll be gentle. See? Aren't the waves beautiful too?"
"Mmm… they really are…"
The waves washed in and out, like a gentle lullaby.
Before Sandy knew it, Nami had fallen asleep, and he carried her back to the cabin so she could rest peacefully.
But when Sandy returned to the crow's nest—
Robin was already there, smiling playfully at him.
He sat beside her.
Whispering near her ear, he asked, "What's wrong? Can't sleep?"
Robin tilted her head.
"Mm… a little insomnia."
"Hm? Why?"
Sandy frowned, "Does it feel like the ship is shaking a bit?"
Robin flushed bright red, turning her head away.
"…How about we go sit on the beach?"
With Sandy's ability, they were there in a second.
Robin gently rested her hands on Sandy's shoulders from behind.
She was taller than him—almost two meters—and Sandy couldn't help blushing.
Thankfully, Robin lowered herself a little.
Looking ahead, Sandy murmured, "…They seem to have grown bigger?"
Robin rolled her eyes so hard they nearly flew away.
She ignored him and stared at the night sky.
Memories—happy and painful—seemed to flow through her mind.
Sandy sat quietly beside her, sweating nervously, but offering silent companionship. Listening to the wind, sharing her quiet moment.
Because of Sandy's gentle presence, Robin suddenly felt a warm, comforting feeling in her chest. She let out a soft sigh—
Then quickly covered her mouth, realizing it was late and she shouldn't wake the others.
Just like that, the Straw Hat Crew spent several days on the deserted island.
During the day, Sandy trained Luffy and Zoro.
At night… he was stuck accompanying Nami and Robin.
To be honest, for the Straw Hats to stand firm in the New World, Sandy really was doing everything he could.
As Vice Captain—he was more than qualified, right?
Since Luffy couldn't sit still and kept whining about leaving, and the Log Pose had finished recording, the crew finally set out on a new journey.
(The filler "amnesia" arc wasn't interesting, so I skipped those thirty episodes.)
