"Please, Robin," Luffy said firmly, "it doesn't matter if you want to die or whatever—but if you're going to talk like that, say it after you come back to us."
Sanji nodded. "That's right, Robin."
Chopper cried, "Robin, hurry and come back!"
Looking at her companions, Robin felt her heart tighten.
At the age of eight, she fled her home—drifting alone across the Sea, battered by cold winds… completely alone.
When she reached towns, she found she was already wanted. No common citizen dared to take her in. She had nowhere to go.
Rainy nights, cold winds, hunger, fear, loneliness—those became normal for her.
With no place to belong, she stepped into the darkness of the underworld. But there, a single misstep meant death or being captured.
Companions?
She once had them. But all of them abandoned her—some out of fear, some out of selfishness, and some for the bounty on her head.
She… Robin…
"Ya ha ha ha ha!" Spandam stood on the railing of the tower, waving his Golden Den Den Mushi—the key to the Buster Call.
"You idiots have no idea how much this Buster Call affects this woman! Look! This is the power I have to control the great nations of the world!
With a single press of this button, you'll be wiped out—even if you run to the ends of the earth! Ha ha ha ha!"
Staring at the Golden Den Den Mushi, Robin trembled. "Do you even know what a Buster Call is? If you press that button, you'll blow up Enies Lobby along with us!"
Spandam barked, "Wh-What nonsense?! Who would attack their own?! What are you talking about?!"
Robin continued, voice trembling, "Twenty years ago… the attack that destroyed everything I had and ruined countless lives—
that disaster—the Buster Call… that nightmare… is now threatening the companions I finally found and can be honest with!"
She looked toward the Straw Hats and let her true feelings spill out.
"The more I want to be with you… the more my fate will hurt you. No matter where I go in this Sea, enemies will always come for me. Because my enemy… is this world, and that darkness.
Because of Aokiji on the island… and because of this incident… you've all been dragged into it twice already! If this continues… no matter how kind you are…
One day you'll see me as a burden. One day… you will abandon me!
That is the moment I fear most… so I don't want you to save me! If I'm going to die sooner or later… then let me die here!"
"Robin!"
"Robin…"
"So that's how it is…"
Hearing Robin's confession, the Straw Hats finally understood the fear she carried.
Her entire life had been betrayal—people who feared being punished, people who used her, people who chased her bounty. She had nowhere to go except the shadows.
"Ah ha ha ha ha!" Spandam laughed triumphantly. "Exactly! Who would want to carry a burden like you?! Ha ha ha—"
"Hey. Masked guy."
Up on the roof, Sandy tilted his head with a sinister grin. "Try being rude to her again."
Cipher Pol 9 and Spandam stiffened. The look on Sandy's face—like defying him meant being devoured alive—sent cold sweat dripping down their backs.
"Robin!"
Sandy roared, voice booming across Enies Lobby.
"If we were going to abandon you, we wouldn't have come here! If they take you to Marine Headquarters—
I'll break into Marine Headquarters! If they take you to Impel Down—I'll break in and flip the whole place upside down!!"
His words echoed across the island. Even Robin was stunned.
"Pfft—ha ha ha ha!" Spandam howled. "Idiot! Who do you think you are?! You'd die before reaching the gates!!"
Sandy smirked. "People die eventually. If you want to die, Robin… then I'll go seek death with you. Either way—I'm saving you."
"Ha ha ha ha!" Spandam wheezed. "Idiot! Look at that symbol!"
He pointed at the World Government flag.
"That symbol represents over 170 nations across the Four Seas and the Grand Line! That is the world! And you dare oppose that?
Do you see now how insignificant you are? Do you understand the scale of the force hunting her?!"
Luffy stared at the flag for a long moment.
Then he said, "Now I get who Robin's enemy is. Sniper King—shoot that flag."
"Roger!" Usopp loaded his weapon. "New weapon! Giant slingshot! Ultimate attack—Fire Bird Star!!!"
BOOM!
The flag burst into flames.
"Th–They… they actually did it!!"
"Don't they know what that means?!"
"They just declared war on the World Government!!"
Spandam shrieked, "You're insane!! This makes you enemies of the whole world!! You'll never survive!!"
"Just how I like it!" Luffy roared. "Robin! I haven't heard you say it yet—say 'I want to live!'"
Sandy shouted too, "Say it! Say you want to live!!"
"Say it!!" The whole crew echoed.
"…"
Robin froze.
Is this… what companions feel like?
What is this strange warmth?
Her mind filled with memories.
"You have no place in this world, Robin."
"Your existence is a crime…"
Her tears fell—hot, stubborn.
All her life, no one had ever allowed her to live.
No one… except one man.
Saul.
He had given his life so she could live… and so she could meet companions who would protect her.
Luffy's sincerity… her companions' determination… Sandy's declaration…
If… she could make a wish…
Then—
With tears streaming down her face, Robin lifted her head and screamed from her soul:
"I WANT TO LIVE!! TAKE ME WITH YOU… TO THE SEA TOO!!!!!!!"
"UWAAAHHH!" Franky burst into tears. "I LOVE YOU GUYS SO DAMN MUCH—pfft—I'M NOT CRYING! BAKA! I'M NOT CRYING AT ALL!"
"UWOHH!"
"ANOTHER LAKE!!"
Sandy flipped backward repeatedly in pure joy.
Just then, the sound of a Sea Train roared below—it was the Rocketman driven by Kokoro.
Luffy grinned. "Hehehe…"
"!!" Everyone stiffened.
"Ah—!"
Before anyone could react, Luffy stretched his arms out and shoved everyone off the tower.
Sandy flailed mid-air. "WAIT—HEY—WAIT FOR MEEEE—!!"
