Chapter 17 — The Superhero Whistling Palm
Derek was walking through Metropolis as casually as ever.
He had his work bag with him and was simply heading through the city like an ordinary person.
He wasn't looking for trouble.
He wasn't looking for heroes.
He wasn't even thinking about Transition.
But someone was watching him.
Whistling Palm.
Whistling Palm was a powerful superhero with super strength, super speed, super durability, and the ability to fly faster than the speed of sound.
More importantly, he already knew about Transitioning.
He had studied Derek's previous encounters and understood that attacking him directly was extremely dangerous.
So Whistling Palm decided to try something different.
He flew high above Derek and quietly approached from behind.
"Let's see if you can react to this."
Whistling Palm suddenly accelerated.
He flew directly toward Derek at incredible speed.
But before he could reach him—
Transitioning activated.
Whistling Palm suddenly found himself on the ground several meters in front of Derek.
CRASH!
He quickly stood up.
Derek hadn't even turned around.
Derek looked at him.
"Are you dumb?"
Whistling Palm stared at him.
Derek continued:
"Did you really think I didn't notice you?"
Whistling Palm clenched his fists.
"My name is Whistling Palm."
Derek looked him up and down.
"That's what you call yourself?"
Whistling Palm immediately flew toward him again.
"You're a villain!"
He accelerated beyond the speed of sound.
"You've killed many people!"
Derek simply watched him approach.
Then Transitioning activated again.
The distance between them disappeared.
Derek suddenly appeared directly in front of Whistling Palm.
Whistling Palm's eyes widened.
"What—?"
He threw a punch.
Derek transitioned himself out of its path.
Whistling Palm turned around.
Derek was already behind him.
"You're fast."
Derek paused.
"But speed isn't the same thing as being able to reach me."
Whistling Palm became furious.
"You can't keep running forever!"
Derek's expression became cold.
"I'm not running."
He raised his hand.
"You're the one who came looking for me."
Whistling Palm prepared to attack again.
Derek activated Transitioning.
The world around Whistling Palm suddenly changed.
In an instant, he was no longer in Metropolis.
He had been transitioned directly into the interior of the Sun, far beyond its surface and deep within its extreme interior.
Whistling Palm disappeared from Derek's sight.
Derek lowered his hand.
"Your name doesn't matter."
He turned around and continued walking.
"You should have stayed out of my way."
Derek continued down the street as if nothing had happened.
Another superhero had attacked Transition.
And once again, Derek hadn't needed to fight.
He had simply decided where his opponent belonged.
