Chapter song: the precipice - Jessie Mazin
Lennon was laid in the Medical Centre's bed, his body still pumping with fluids as the last remnants of poison left his system.
He was now in a stable state having received High State Anchoring from a high-ranking Anchor and had been ordered to stay in the centre for another day. He was beyond exhausted and didn't bother protesting when the Anchor in charge had ordered him to stay put.
Lennon pressed his head against the stiff pillow under his neck and sighed. His gaze moved from the monitors to the window. A woodpecker landed on top of a branch, pecking away at the solid bark of an oak tree. Its feathery plumage looked brighter under the afternoon light.
He watched it longingly, wishing he could be outside right now enjoying the fresh air like this little one hacking away at that tree. As he stared at the great spotted bird, a knock then interrupted his musings.
