SOPHIE'S POV
I was tired of being the soft thing in the room.
That was the truth of it, plain and simple. Every time something important happened, someone would look at me, make a quick internal calculation about what I could handle, and decide to tell me the sanitized version. Or nothing at all. Caleb did it constantly — he'd been doing it my whole life, wrapping information in cotton wool before handing it to me like I was made of something that shattered easily. Lucien did it more subtly, which was almost worse because at least with Caleb you could see it coming. Even Marcus, who had barely acknowledged my existence for years, had started giving me these careful looks that said *she doesn't need to know that part.*
It was driving me absolutely insane.
