Chapter 96: Prom Night - The Battle Part 1
POV: Sam Barton
Students scream, stampeding toward exits that won't open—the compelled witches sealed them with magic I can feel pressing against the building like invisible walls.
My Phasing clone moves first, materializing among panicked teenagers. "This way! I can get you out!"
He pulls students through solid walls in groups of three, his intangible form passing through barriers that trap everyone else. The evacuees stumble into the parking lot, shocked and terrified but alive.
My Defensive Shield clone projects golden barriers that separate students from vampires, creating safe zones where people huddle together.
Klaus and his hybrids engage the Expression-enhanced vampires with brutal efficiency—hybrid strength meeting supernatural enhancement in combat that shatters furniture and cracks the gymnasium floor.
"They're fast as Originals!" Damon shouts, barely dodging a strike that would've decapitated him.
"Shane enhanced them with death magic!" I reply, my Enhanced Speed letting me blur between defensive positions. "Aim for the heart—only permanent kill works!"
Tyler fights alongside Stefan, his hybrid nature making him one of the few who can match the enhanced vampires' speed. They coordinate wordlessly, centuries of vampire instinct meeting months of hybrid training.
Then Shane materializes at the gymnasium's center, Expression power radiating like visible heat distortion.
"Three hundred deaths to fuel Silas's awakening," Shane announces with clinical satisfaction. "Thank you for gathering them so conveniently, Sam Barton."
Bonnie channels Bennett ancestors immediately, her form blazing with purple-black light as a hundred witches flow through her.
"You'll get none of them!" Bonnie declares, throwing ancestral magic that clashes with Shane's Expression in spectacular display.
The two forces meet midair—light versus darkness, life magic versus death energy. The impact shakes the building, magical pressure making students cry out in pain.
My Magic Absorption clone positions beside Bonnie, draining Shane's Expression power while she attacks. The clone's form blazes purple-black as he consumes death magic, feeding it back to Bonnie as raw energy she can redirect.
Shane laughs. "The anomaly's shadow helps. Fascinating—but insufficient!"
He blasts Bonnie back with necrotic wave that would kill normal humans. My Magic Absorption clone catches most of it, screaming from the corrosive magic burning through his shadowy form.
[MP: 960 → 720 → REGENERATING]
I coordinate all six clones and alliance members simultaneously through enhanced perception and tactical awareness honed over a year of supernatural crises.
Mind Shield prevents Shane from compelling students into killing each other—I can feel him trying, mental assault like battering ram against my clone's defenses.
Sensory tracks all fifteen vampires' positions, feeding information to Klaus and the combat team so they're never ambushed.
Defensive Shield creates and maintains barriers protecting the most vulnerable student groups.
Magic Absorption supports Bonnie, draining Shane's power to weaken his attacks.
Phasing evacuates people through sealed walls, pulling them to safety in coordinated extractions.
Strength fights alongside Klaus's hybrids, delivering blows enhanced by supernatural force that stake Expression-vampires through the heart.
And I move between all positions with Enhanced Speed, coordinating the defense while personally engaging threats.
Students witness me "multiplying" and moving at speeds that blur my form. The masquerade is completely blown, but survival matters more than secrecy.
Five vampires are down—Klaus ripped out two hearts personally, Tyler staked one with hunter weapons Connor installed, Damon and Stefan coordinated to eliminate another, and my Strength clone destroyed the fifth.
Ten enhanced vampires remain, and Shane's dueling Bonnie to a stalemate despite my Magic Absorption clone's support.

Caroline huddles with fifty students behind my Defensive Shield's largest barrier, watching me coordinate the impossible—saving everyone through strategic brilliance and supernatural abilities I can no longer hide.
Matt turns to her in shock. "Sam's... he's not human, is he? Those shadow things are part of him?"
Caroline responds with grim pride. "He's better than human. He's our protector. And he's going to save all of us."
