Bruce was running, carrying Betty, who was slowly beginning to stir from her unconsciousness. As he rounded a corner, he saw police officers searching room by room. Heavily armed, they made him turn away immediately.
Unable to transform into the Hulk, he was almost powerless to resist. With his half-baked Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills, he knew these two officers would have him pinned to the ground in seconds. Wisely, he chose to evade. But this led to him avoiding one group of police only to turn another corner and find a squad of soldiers marching toward him.
General Ross had deployed a massive number of personnel. When they began their systematic search of the theater, it meant the building had become an inescapable net. Bruce's repeated evasions proved futile as he kept discovering more searchers, who were slowly cornering him into a desperate situation. He was like a turtle trapped in a jar, with no way out.
Unwilling to surrender, he frantically searched for a hiding place, but there were simply too few. This wasn't a maze; it was a grand opera house, one of the busiest public spaces, with no hidden corners.
Bruce refused to give up. He dodged and weaved, desperately avoiding the eyes of the police and searchers. Seizing an opportunity when they weren't paying attention, he darted into a room.
The room looked like an actor's dressing room, and indeed it was. But he wasn't the only one inside.
A woman, half-dressed, was intimately involved with a man when Bruce's sudden intrusion clearly disrupted their mood.
"What the hell? Who are you people?" The woman screamed the moment she saw Bruce and his companions, while the black-haired Asian man immediately shouted at them.
"Please, don't make a scene. We're being chased, just let us hide!" Bruce pleaded urgently, but the man showed no willingness to hear his explanation.
"You think you can fool me with some flimsy excuse, huh?" He pushed the dancer in his arms behind him and began striding toward Bruce. It was then that Bruce realized the man was incredibly muscular, his body covered in streamlined muscles and his face menacing. He clearly wasn't someone you could reason with.
As a desk clerk, Bruce was terrible at dealing with people like this. He quickly raised his hands to show he meant no harm, but the man continued to charge forward relentlessly. For him, physical confrontation was clearly the priority.
He grabbed Bruce by the arm, lifting him off the ground and slamming him against the wall. The hard surface sent a searing pain through Bruce's back. But what he cared about most was Betty, who lay collapsed on the floor.
She hadn't yet recovered from the tranquilizer's effects and couldn't stand on her own without support.
"Man, my girlfriend's sick. Show some compassion and leave us alone," Bruce pleaded. He was met with the Asian man's spit and a cold sneer.
"Sorry, I'm Li Gonggong. After years of underground fighting, compassion is the one thing I never learned." With that, he delivered a lightning-fast punch to Bruce's gut.
The blow was so swift that Bruce's muscles exploded into action instantly. Li Gonggong was exactly the kind of professional bare-knuckle fighter he claimed to be, one who never held back. The impact left Bruce instantly crippled.
The searing pain in his abdomen forced his entire body forward, his eyes threatening to pop from their sockets.
"Tougher than you look, huh?" Seeing that Bruce was surprisingly unfazed after taking a punch, Li Gonggong pinned him against the wall and slammed him into it several more times. He didn't stop until Bruce finally coughed up blood.
Bruce no longer had the strength to stand and collapsed softly to the ground. Li Gonggong then turned toward Betty, who was lying on the floor.
"Stop cowering there! Come help me check these two for anything valuable!" he barked at the dancer, reaching toward Betty.
"Gonggong, should we really be doing this?" The dancer looked frightened, clearly not prepared for such an act. But Li Gonggong paid her no mind as he plunged his hand into Betty's bodice.
"Damn it, don't you even carry cash when you go out? But hey, buddy, your girlfriend's got some nice curves." Under Betty's humiliated gaze, Li Gonggong shamelessly groped her. Bruce watched it all.
Bruce was consumed by a blinding rage. He struggled to his feet, letting out a low, menacing growl at Li Gonggong.
"Get your filthy hands off me!"
"What? What did you say?" Li Gonggong cupped his hand to his ear, feigning a need to listen. Then, he delivered a brutal kick to Bruce's face, sending him flying. "What do you think you are, a weakling? You're nothing but a pathetic failure who can't even protect his own woman!"
The words struck Bruce's heart like a knife, instantly shattering his composure. A man who couldn't protect his woman—what a laughable joke! And now, Bruce Banner had become that joke.
His heart began to pound wildly, and an endless fury erupted within him. In the past, such rage would have been enough to summon the Hulk. But now, it only gave him a fleeting surge of strength.
"Let her go, you bastard!" Bruce rose to his feet, his head bleeding profusely, yet he stubbornly advanced toward Li Gonggong.
"Ha, what are you going to do?" Li Gonggong sneered, his face contorting as blue-purple veins began to surface on Bruce's face. He lunged forward, driving his shoulder into Bruce with brutal force, sending him flying like a log to crash heavily onto the floor.
Bruce, who was already growing accustomed to the pain, hadn't even begun to rise when Li Gonggong straddled his body. His arms flailed wildly, raining down a relentless barrage of fists.
The sickening thud of flesh against flesh echoed through the room, and tears began to stream down Betty's face. Still unable to move or even cry out for help, she could only watch helplessly as Bruce was beaten like a sandbag.
When the assault finally stopped, Betty felt her sanity fraying. Fear for Bruce's safety, a dread that something terrible might happen to him at the hands of this madman, drove her to squirm like a maggot, desperate to get closer to him.
Li Gonggong stepped on her foot, rendering all her efforts utterly useless. Watching the woman's eyes fill with despair, Li Gonggong vigorously wiped his hands on his coat, cleaning off the bloodstains before letting out a strange laugh.
"Don't be afraid, madam. We can have a nice chat tonight. I'll do my best to comfort you."
At that moment, a violent heartbeat began to pound like a war drum. Accompanying the muffled drumbeats was the gushing sound of a river—the sound of blood flowing. As the drumming grew more frantic and the flowing sound became increasingly piercing, Bruce, who had been lying limp on the floor, suddenly sat up.
A glint of green light appeared in his eyes. As he slowly rose to his feet, his body began to transform. The giant reappeared, his massive shadow pressing down on the cramped room. A guttural roar erupted from his throat, like thunder, filled with seething rage that needed to be unleashed.
Hulk finally broke through all restraints, once again bursting forth from Bruce Banner's body. His massive form filled the room, overwhelming everyone present. Yet, unlike those who had witnessed the Hulk before, Li Gonggong let out a cold sneer.
"Hah, so you're a mutant. Do you think growing bigger will make any difference? Let me tell you, even when you're huge, you're still trash to me!"
With that, he charged forward. The Hulk gritted his teeth, let out a snarl, and met the attack with his massive fist.
In an instant, Li Gonggong became a meatball, sent flying through the air. He was a meatball because, the moment the Hulk struck him, most of his bones had shattered. What flew through the air wasn't a person, but a lump of flesh and bone—a grotesque ball of gore wrapped around countless bone fragments.
This sight sent the hesitant dancer into a frenzy. Screaming for help, she flung open the door and fled.
Hulk ignored her presence and simply crouched down, silently scooping Betty into his arms.
Though Betty couldn't speak, her eyes blazed with relief. To her, this meant they were finally saved. But to Hulk, it was only the beginning.
A group of soldiers suddenly burst in, drawn by the dancer's screams. The moment they saw Hulk, they opened fire without hesitation.
Bullets sprayed through the air. Hulk swiftly turned his back, shielding Betty with his body. As the soldiers' magazines emptied, he slammed his fist into the floor.
A cascade of thunderous crashes and collisions erupted. The soldiers felt their feet shaking, their vision blurring. They lost their balance completely.
They scrambled to the floor to avoid falling, only to realize the ground beneath them was giving way. The entire floor collapsed in a massive section, not just one level. In an instant, they were swallowed by a torrent of collapsing bricks, debris, and churning muck, vanishing completely from Hulk's sight.
This time, Hulk didn't turn and flee as he usually did. He stared at the ruins he had created, then strode forward, charging toward the soldiers. He wanted to fight, to show the world just how terrifying the enraged Hulk truly was.
