"Are we ready?" General Ross asked his subordinate, who quickly replied, "General, everything is prepared. Our men are ready."
"Good. Signal that guy. Have him lure the Hulk to the designated location." General Ross waved his hand, sending his soldiers back to work. The Hulk's appearance was as he expected. Though he didn't know why the Hulk hadn't appeared sooner, it didn't matter. His only goal was to capture the Hulk, and he cared about nothing else.
Yet even though he only wanted to deal with the Hulk and ignore everything else, trouble still came crashing down on him.
"Sir, our men have spotted Hulk near Columbia University. He's heading toward Broadway Street," a National Guard officer reported over the comms channel, relaying the situation to General Ross.
"Soldier, are you joking? Or did you get the direction wrong? Hulk just came out of Broadway Street. How could he be where you say he is?" General Ross refused to believe the officer, or rather, he was unwilling to.
After all, Hulk was under his surveillance, and the second target had been taken by Dawn Knight. Where else could they find another green giant? He firmly believed the officer must be out of his mind, because he simply didn't want to see another Hulk.
Yet reality was predetermined, and it would not change regardless of his wishes.
"Sir, who do you think my men are engaging? I have footage—we need reinforcements!" The officer activated the transmission device on his helmet, standard-issue US military gear that allowed for real-time monitoring and analysis of the soldier's surroundings.
When he transmitted the footage to General Ross, the old man fell silent.
Before his eyes, a green giant was rampaging through everything in its path, leaving a trail of destroyed vehicles and public facilities in its wake. Soldiers fired wildly, but their bullets only sparked off the creature's skin, as if it were wearing armor.
Seeing this, General Ross knew this was definitely not the Hulk. He had fought the Hulk for years and was intimately familiar with his abilities. Bullets would never spark off the Hulk; his muscles would absorb the kinetic energy without deflecting the projectiles. This giant was no Hulk. Realizing this, General Ross understood that the situation was spiraling into disaster. His once foolproof plan was now crumbling under this unexpected variable.
Still, he had to make one last attempt. Whatever the outcome, he had to try.
"Soldier, I have a mission for you. A mission you must complete!" General Ross began assigning the officer a perilous task, one where a single misstep could lead to utter annihilation. He fully understood the mission's danger, but orders were orders. He only cared about the result. No matter what, this group of soldiers had to carry out this command.
Of course, the mission wasn't a suicide mission; there was still a sliver of hope, provided they could make it in time.
"If we can just make it in time!" General Ross muttered to himself, pinning his hopes on the ethereal notion of luck.
"I must have stepped on something dirty when I left the house today," Little Spider muttered as he sprinted toward Times Square. He had just received a warning from the U.S. military to lure the Hulk in that direction. Following the principles of a good citizen, Little Spider chose to trust the soldiers. So he did everything he could to attract the Hulk's attention, keeping the green behemoth hot on his heels.
The enraged Hulk did indeed follow, but he showed no signs of friendliness. As he chased Little Spider, the Hulk casually grabbed whatever he could find and hurled it at the smaller hero. These objects included trash cans, phone booths, and even cars.
To Hulk, these were mere trifles. But Little Spider wanted nothing to do with them. Fortunately, his Spider-Sense always saved his life at the last moment; otherwise, the barrage of flying debris alone would have taken him down.
"Hey, put me down," Betty slurred, her voice muffled as she gradually regained her senses in Little Spider's arms. Though she spoke softly, he heard her clearly. When he did, he immediately began shaking his head.
"Ma'am, I don't know what you've been through, but you have to believe that life is good and the world is beautiful. Even if you want to die, you don't have to do it this way. I mean, jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge would be better than being crushed into a pancake. Of course, don't you dare jump in front of New York's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man—I'll definitely save you."
As Little Spider spouted his nonsensical, rapid-fire nonsense, Betty began to understand why Hulk was so enraged. After all, the guy hadn't stopped his incessant babbling at Hulk the entire way. Just imagining it, she could tell how much mental torture Hulk must have endured.
"He's my boyfriend. He wouldn't hurt me," Betty explained weakly, but Little Spider immediately interpreted it differently.
"Whoa, Beauty and the Beast? No offense, but this big guy behind you isn't exactly a looker. I think King Kong would be a better fit."
Little Spider was still running his mouth when Hulk's roar answered him, followed by an entire bus being hurled his way. It was clear Hulk was furious.
"Alright, I take it back. You're slightly more handsome than King Kong. You're much smoother, and you're even wearing pants!"
This time, it worked. Hulk finally stopped throwing things. Just as Little Spider breathed a sigh of relief, a thunderous crash shook the air. He turned to see Hulk leaping directly in front of him, his massive fist swinging down like a wrecking ball.
This time, even Spider-Sense couldn't save him. His speed had become uncontrollable; despite his body's reaction, inertia carried him straight toward Hulk's fist. In desperation, he closed his eyes and screamed.
"Don't move! I have a hostage!" The shout worked as expected. Hulk's expression instantly changed, and he halted his attack. But the consequences of his reckless move were clear—he couldn't quite stop himself.
At that moment, Little Spider desperately shoved Betty, narrowly avoiding the punch. Both of them breathed a sigh of relief as the blow landed harmlessly. Then, Little Spider did something incredibly foolish.
He plastered another web across Hulk's face and turned to run. Imagine how anyone would feel after being hit in the face with the same thing twice by the same person. Some might remain calm, but Hulk was definitely not one of them.
He ripped the web from his face, hissed "Get out of the way!" at Betty, and leaped hundreds of meters, landing right behind Little Spider. It was clear he was truly determined to crush this annoying little bug.
Little Spider ran desperately, finally reaching Times Square. He stared at the square not far away, utterly exhausted in body and mind. He hadn't expected to push himself to such limits. The mere thought of the Hulk's terror made his legs feel weak. *This kind of monster should be handled by the military, not me.*
Just as he crouched on a lamppost, preparing to watch the military take over and deal with the Hulk, a dark shadow landed in front of him with a thunderous crash. This time, the Hulk's jump was exceptionally accurate—he landed directly in front of the lamppost where Little Spider was perched.
The massive impact and vibration instantly turned the lamppost into a wildly swaying mast. Little Spider wobbled precariously, nearly thrown off. When he finally managed to steady himself, he realized he was in serious trouble.
The Hulk had already gripped the lamppost in his hand, his massive green face looming just inches from Little Spider.
"Hey, how's it going? Up close, I have to say, your skin is really great. Not a single pimple. What face wash do you use?" Little Spider gave a forced laugh, trying to lighten the mood and hoping to make Hulk go easy on him. But he quickly realized it was having no effect.
Hulk glared at him, his green eyes blazing with fury. Grinding his teeth, he growled:
"Little bug... must die!"
Little Spider wasn't about to surrender. Desperate to survive, he quickly exposed his wrist. A limp strand of webbing shot out, sticking to Hulk's face.
"Uh, looks like I'm out. If you don't mind, I could try another one!"
Hulk snarled, raising his massive palm. Just then, a military vehicle suddenly flew through the air, crashing into the building beside them and exploding in a fireball.
The distraction was enough for Little Spider to leap away. Hulk roared in response, and at that exact moment, another roar followed—one that seemed to carry the heat of a furnace and the fury of a wildfire.
Suddenly, the wall in front of Hulk exploded outward, and a similarly massive figure burst from the billowing dust, slamming into Hulk's chest like a cannonball. A deafening boom erupted, like a giant cowhide drum being struck right beside his ear, the impact so violent it was deafening.
But that wasn't all. A shockwave radiated from the point of impact between the two giants, sending Little Spider, who was still airborne, flying backward and slamming hard against a wall.
Little Spider winced in pain, but as a superhuman, he wasn't seriously injured. Even if he had been, he wouldn't have dared confront the culprits to seek revenge.
Before him, the two giants were locked in a brutal exchange, trading punches and kicks with explosive force. Seeing the shockwaves generated by their bare-fisted clashes, Little Spider felt both relief and immense pride. *Hulk is this strong? If I lasted this long against him, doesn't that mean I'm practically flying?*
He's a person with exceptional mental fortitude, at least as far as I can tell. That's absolutely perfect.
