Chapter 219 - Navigating the Fiery Web, Battle Rages On

The buildings around Times Square began to tremble violently. A relentless barrage of explosions and billowing dust erupted from the structures, occasionally spewing out all sorts of bizarre debris.

Everyone, like Little Spider, stayed safely on the ground, anxiously speculating about the progress of the battle above. Their speculation was born of fear; no one dared to ascend and witness the chaos firsthand. A single Hulk-level monster had already shattered their courage, let alone the emergence of another such monstrosity.

They waited for a long time, finally finding a moment of relative quiet. The commotion in the building finally died down. Just as Little Spider was about to take a risk and go up to investigate, a massive figure suddenly burst through the wall, flying out from a floor dozens of stories high and crashing heavily onto the ground.

A deafening crash echoed through Times Square, leaving a deep crater in the pavement where the giant body had landed. Hulk rose from the rubble, his massive frame shaking, and roared in fury at the floor he had just been thrown from.

"Heh heh heh..." Another colossal figure appeared at the edge of the floor, his laughter a deep, grating sound. "Hulk, is that all you've got?"

The cornered Hulk immediately erupted in a furious roar. He grabbed a nearby slab of upturned floor and hurled it at the monster above. The ordinary slab became a deadly weapon in his hand, the wind whistling around it as it spun, a sound far more terrifying than a helicopter's rotor.

Faced with this, the monster on the upper floor had no intention of taking the hit head-on. It sidestepped the flying brick, and the air filled with a piercing, dull thud as the brick tore through the entire building, its fragmented remains spiraling into the sky.

"Hmph!" Seeing Hulk raise another chunk of debris, Blonsky had no intention of remaining a stationary target. He roared, stomped his foot, and launched himself straight at Hulk.

The explosive recoil caused half the floor to collapse instantly, sending Blonsky hurtling down like a missile. Hulk tried to swat him down with his weapon, but Blonsky shattered it with two casual punches.

He landed on the ground with a deafening crash, mere yards from Hulk.

"Is this all you've got? Is this your full potential?" Blonsky cackled, his voice thick with derision as he mercilessly mocked Hulk. But Hulk would never tolerate such mockery.

With a roar, the Hulk charged forward like a bulldozer, while Blonsky grinned menacingly as he met the charge. Beneath the feet of these two giants, the earth itself groaned under their power, the ground trembling violently. Cracks spread across the plaza in waves, wherever their battle's shockwaves touched. Few who stood in their path remained upright, and even fewer structures remained standing.

The Hulk's ferocious assault proved less effective against Blonsky than expected. Though now a monster, Blonsky remained an elite special forces soldier at heart. Compared to the Hulk's brute-force tactics, Blonsky's special forces combat skills gave him a clear advantage.

Bending low, Blonsky accelerated toward the Hulk, instantly wrapping his arms around the behemoth's waist and lifting him off his feet. Though the Hulk struggled violently, hammering his fists against Blonsky's back, the heavy armor behind him made such attacks easily bearable.

Blonsky endured Hulk's attack, then forcefully lifted him and slammed him down behind him in a massive backbreaker. Such a move would typically thrill audiences in a wrestling match, but here it only inspired awe.

Hulk's body was nearly buried beneath the ground, the massive impact exploding like a buried bomb. The ground around them erupted in layers, bricks and soil flying outward in an explosive spray. The visual spectacle was so overwhelming it felt like watching a Hollywood blockbuster. But this wasn't fiction; this was reality.

Faced with this reality, nearly everyone felt the crushing weight of their own powerlessness. *We can't let them destroy any more,* General Ross thought, watching the devastation from his plane. Times Square, an American icon, now lay in ruins, its buildings scarred and battered as if ravaged by war.

If he didn't act immediately, the consequences would be dire. Even with powerful backing, if Madison Square, Wall Street, and other critical locations were affected, he would face a disastrous outcome. Therefore, he issued his orders without hesitation.

"All action teams, prepare to move out."

At his command, dozens of armed helicopters swarmed in from all directions. Soldiers appeared on the rooftops of surrounding buildings, deploying what looked like large radar devices. Military vehicles began flooding the streets, forming a cordon around the two giants at the center of the square. They trained their various machine guns and rocket launchers on the towering figures.

This was all the force General Ross could muster, his final, desperate gamble. If he succeeded, he would achieve lasting glory, securing a prominent position within the American military leadership. His contribution would be etched in military history, making him a figure as iconic as Eisenhower. The chaos in Times Square and Broadway would become mere footnotes.

But if he failed, he would lose everything. He would be left with nothing. A wrong command, a wrong action, and the massive casualties and economic losses would be enough to ruin his career and land him in prison.

This was a high-stakes gamble, and he knew it well, so he took it very seriously. Monitoring the battle below, General Ross immediately gave the order once all the teams were fully prepared.

"All troops, listen up! Open fire!"

At his command, all aircraft, tanks, and attack devices launched their offensive. Long chains of fire erupted from the helicopters' machine guns, forming crisscrossing nets of fire that swept across the two giants below. Large-caliber rounds struck their bodies, splashing sparks.

The overlapping volleys seemed ineffective, but they were enough to inflict minor pain on the giants.

"General!" Blonsky was the first to shout, seemingly confused as to why he was being attacked. He assumed it was friendly fire and quickly yelled, "Stop! General, it's me!"

"Blonsky?" General Ross recognized him by his tone and demeanor, but he had no intention of showing mercy. To him, this was already war. Moreover, in his current state, Blonsky had forfeited his right to be called a soldier.

"Ignore him! Keep firing!" Ross continued, signaling the follow-up teams to coordinate their movements with the helicopters.

The helicopters' firepower intensified, and the tanks on the ground joined the assault. The combined onslaught of machine gun fire and rockets immediately increased the pressure on the giants.

Blonsky still didn't understand why. He seemed to believe he hadn't truly betrayed humanity or the military. But the reasons didn't matter. All that mattered was that he didn't want to die here. So he immediately counterattacked.

Ignoring the dazed Hulk on the ground, Blonsky locked onto a rocket launcher vehicle nearby. Under the hail of bullets, he charged toward it with terrifying momentum, causing the soldiers inside to panic.

They frantically slammed the launch buttons, and two rockets shot out toward him.

As two rockets hurtled toward him, Blonsky displayed terrifying skill. The instant one rocket closed in, he swatted it away with a single, powerful slap. His current strength, now nearly superhuman, sent the rocket hurtling back at a speed matching its approach, slamming into an adjacent armored vehicle. A massive fireball erupted, instantly annihilating the vehicle and its crew.

He caught the second rocket firmly in his hand, its fiery tail exhaust proving utterly insignificant against his grip. With a cold laugh, he slammed the weapon against his sternum in full view of the soldiers.

The violent explosion and raging flames engulfed him instantly, yet the soldiers watched in horror as it had no effect on Blonsky. A dark silhouette emerged from the flames, striding out as if taking a leisurely stroll. Clearly, after the initial chaos, Blonsky had realized the truth.

These weapons were less than toys to him; even the recent missiles had only amplified the pain slightly. They were utterly incapable of inflicting real harm. This realization filled him with boundless confidence and unbridled arrogance.

"See, General? Your little toys are completely useless against me. I'm the super-soldier, the ultimate power."

Listening to Blonsky's arrogant shouts, the General barked another order.

"Don't let up on the firepower! Deploy the sonic weapons and attack!"

Under his command, devices on the surrounding buildings immediately aimed their radar-like probes at Blonsky. Then, ultra-high frequency sonic waves erupted. This was the only weapon the General had against the Hulk. He had once used two such devices and nearly subdued the Hulk, but the creature had ultimately resisted and destroyed both weapons.

This humiliation had made him a laughingstock, with even Blonsky calling the weapons "utter garbage." But today, General Ross would prove that this weapon was far from garbage.

To counter the Hulk and the still-unknown Target Two, he had pulled every string to deploy twenty sonic cannons. Now was their moment to demonstrate their true power.
