Chapter 220 - The Donkey's Tricks Exhausted, The General Retreats

Twenty Sonic Cannons activated simultaneously. Invisible ultrasonic waves instantly enveloped Blonsky. The waves surged with such intensity that they seemed to distort the very air around him. When they struck Blonsky, he immediately felt an overwhelming pressure.

An indescribable ache spread through his muscles and bones, and his internal organs churned and convulsed, threatening to make him vomit. His brain felt as if it were about to explode, forcing his eyes open to see the world around him, which appeared blurred and distorted.

This was merely an internal sensation; the external pressure was equally agonizing. It felt as if his body were being buried under layers upon layers of walls. If it were just one or two layers, Blonsky's current strength would have allowed him to ignore it. But now, he was enduring the crushing weight of dozens, even hundreds, of these walls. Every movement sent back a wave of immense pressure. The invisible air itself seemed to have solidified into a rigid mass, completely enveloping him. He felt like a mosquito trapped in amber, struggling to even breathe.

He began to roar desperately, but even the air he expelled was forced back by the relentless, advancing ultrasonic waves. Against this modern weapon of the state, he seemed utterly powerless to resist. General Ross, witnessing this, smiled with satisfaction.

"Prepare the high-potency sedatives. If you have to use a harpoon gun designed for whales, just get the sedatives into him. Understood?"

Blonsky had just begun giving orders to his subordinates when he did something that greatly surprised them. He started frantically pounding the ground beneath him and digging furiously into the soil with his massive, scaled hands.

The sonic weapon wasn't strictly lethal to him; it would relentlessly assault his brain and drain his stamina. Even if it continued at its current intensity, it would at most render him unconscious temporarily. But Blonsky knew all too well that if he lost consciousness, there was no telling what General Ross might do to him. So, before the sonic weapon could completely disable him, he made a decision: dig a tunnel.

Once he'd resolved to act, Blonsky's movements became incredibly swift. With his current strength, breaking through concrete was no problem at all. In mere moments, he had vanished from the surface. This immediately startled General Ross.

However, being a seasoned veteran, Ross remained calm under pressure and calmly issued orders.

"Deploy half the Sonic Cannons to control the Hulk, and keep the other half on standby. Attack immediately the moment he shows his face!"

He was confident, having already verified that this weapon was effective even against a giant of the Hulk's caliber. But for the Hulk, this moment would prove to be disastrous.

Strictly speaking, his current strength was compromised. Although he had broken through the limitations of the Samuel Antidote, forcefully transforming from Bruce Banner to the Hulk through sheer rage, his body had still been affected by the antidote. Compared to his previous self, he was now considerably weakened.

Still reeling from Blonsky's earlier throw, he could barely stand. At that moment, the high-frequency ultrasound from the Sonic Cannons struck him. The powerful shockwaves intensified the dizziness in his brain, causing him to collapse to his knees. Combined with the immense pressure generated by the cannons, the enraged beast was completely restrained. Despite his desperate struggles, his movements were pitifully small.

Seeing Hulk's weak reaction to the weapon, General Ross finally smiled with the confidence of victory. "Quick, hurry and control it! Our mission is almost complete."

He barked out orders, a wave of euphoria flooding his heart. His dream was within reach, a mere extension of his hand away. What a perfect outcome. Yet the more perfect something seemed, the more prone it was to unexpected twists.

A dark green phantom plummeted from the sky, its descent accompanied by a thunderous sonic boom, materializing beside Hulk. When it landed, General Ross's eyes widened instantly.

He couldn't believe his eyes, nor could he fathom anyone daring to sabotage everything at this critical moment. He could only gape, gritting his teeth as the name he loathed clawed its way from his throat. "Dawn Knight!"

Yes, at this crucial moment. Zhou Yi had appeared, and with his arrival, he had completely shattered General Ross's plans.

He stood before the Hulk, projecting a comprehensive psychic field that completely isolated the creature from the external ultrasonic waves, temporarily alleviating its pain. Then, he fired high-energy thermal rays from his eyes, slicing through the sonic emitters like a sword. Though the blasts caused no significant destruction, they were enough to disable the devices. With these sonic weapons neutralized, the military had lost almost all means of harming the Hulk.

"What do you think you're doing, Dawn Knight! Are you declaring war on the military?" General Ross was practically apoplectic, his voice booming through the plane's loudspeaker as he vented his fury at Zhou Yi.

"Let's not be so dramatic, General. I'm merely protecting and assisting a scientist who was driven to desperation by the military and unjustly persecuted."

Zhou Yi showed no fear in the face of Ross's threatening tone. After all, this was a capitalist nation—a place where capital reigned supreme, dwarfing democracy, justice, and even national interest.

As long as you had one of the top three positions, you could oppose the country on any grounds you pleased, and the vast majority of Americans would stand by you. This was the most tragic flaw of the country's government: its people had little faith in it.

"You're interfering with military operations! I can have you arrested for treason right now!" General Ross roared, but to Zhou Yi, it was merely the whimpers of a cornered dog. He waved dismissively.

"Be my guest, General. But I must remind you—you've run out of tricks. You've got nothing left against the Hulk. If I were you, I'd cut my losses and leave while you still can."

Zhou Yi's words were harsh but undeniably true. General Ross was indeed out of options. But letting him walk away now would be unbearable. To do so would mean admitting total defeat, and he knew all too well the consequences that awaited him.

Gritting his teeth, General Ross decided to risk everything. Even if it cost the lives of his soldiers, he would take down the Hulk.

"My orders stand: continue the attack! We must complete our mission! Attack! Attack!"

His words made his adjutant's face pale, and he began to eye General Ross with a peculiar gaze.

"What, can't you hear me?" General Ross roared, his face flushing crimson at his adjutant's strange expression. At that moment, the adjutant drew his pistol and leveled it at the general. "I'm sorry, General. Higher command orders us to withdraw immediately."

"Higher command?" General Ross's face twisted in disbelief. "Who is your superior? Who do you work for, soldier?"

"That's classified, sir. But we've already taken over your duties. Everything here is now under our command." The adjutant smiled. "And there's an order from the Department of Defense: all your positions are hereby relieved, General Thaddeus E. Ross."

Hearing this, General Ross seemed to lose all strength, slumping into his chair. He knew he was finished, a scapegoat for compromises between the Department of Defense and the outside world. This sudden turn of events had shattered his convictions in an instant.

His adjutant gave him a sympathetic glance before pressing the earpiece against his ear.

"Sir, we've secured the situation. We're beginning our withdrawal now."

"Excellent work, everyone. Leave the rest to our 'Super Gentleman'." Coulson's voice came through his earpiece, revealing that the massive entity lurking behind the scenes—S.H.I.E.L.D.—had delivered the final, fatal blow to General Ross.

Though the methods were somewhat underhanded, they were the best possible solution given the circumstances. As Zhou Yi listened to Coulson's report and watched the troops gradually withdraw, leaving only police to maintain order at the scene, he nodded in satisfaction. He turned to the Hulk and said,

"Now, can we talk? Mr. Banner!"

The only response was a roar of frustration from the Hulk. His emerald eyes remained fixed on the helicopter that had just carried General Ross's voice, his heavy, ragged breathing a clear sign of his fury.

Zhou Yi caught his gaze and immediately issued a warning:

"Mr. Banner, if I were you, I'd restrain myself. You should know I went to great lengths to get this situation under control."

Meanwhile, Jennifer, who had arrived with him, rushed to calm the Hulk's rising temper.

"Calm down, Bruce. It's all over. Don't be reckless—it won't help."

But the enraged Hulk wouldn't listen to either of them. His anger toward General Ross was like a volcanic eruption, and in his eyes, everything he had was the fault of this mad general. The mere sound of Ross's voice triggered an uncontrollable explosion of rage.

Under this fury, almost no one could pacify him. Ignoring the two men, he let out a roar, picked up a massive boulder, and hurled it toward the helicopter in the sky.

The boulder whistled through the air with terrifying speed, its velocity filling the pilot's eyes with utter despair. At this speed, there was no way to evade the attack. Just as the boulder was about to strike the helicopter, Zhou Yi suddenly reached out toward it.

A powerful telekinetic force instantly halted the boulder's momentum, freezing it in mid-air. As Zhou Yi closed his fist, the boulder slowly crumbled under immense pressure, disintegrating into dust that scattered in the wind.

Having finished his task, Zhou Yi coldly questioned Hank.

"Mr. Banner, are you trying to provoke me?"
