Chapter 226 - Dignity Lost, Death Self-Sought

Regrettable as it was, he wouldn't let such a monster escape. After all, countless eyes were watching this battle. If he, with all the advantages, allowed the Abomination to slip away, the Dawn Knight's reputation would be utterly ruined. Besides, that meddling Coulson would never let him hear the end of it.

So, despite feeling sorry for the poor Mr. Abomination Blonsky, his fate was sealed. Zhou Yi would never let him escape his grasp.

In the realm of speed, he could now claim to be the fastest being on Earth. Even Quicksilver, who could slow time itself, couldn't surpass him in raw speed. Thus, he was utterly confident that the Abomination wouldn't escape his grasp.

At first, he felt as if he could stroll through this scene at his leisure. But when his super vision revealed Abomination's next move, he transformed into a streak of light and charged forward.

Abomination was in a terrible state. His body had suffered catastrophic damage. Unlike the Hulk, whose strength grew with his rage, he had become the weakest link in the final battle. As a result, Zhou Yi's devastating punch had inflicted the most severe injuries upon him.

Like the Hulk, nearly all his muscles had been torn to shreds. But unlike the Hulk, his scales had nearly all exploded from his body. Both his bone spurs and armor plates were riddled with massive cracks. The worst damage was to his back, where the bone plates had shattered completely, revealing his moving spine through the gaps.

This was the most vulnerable he had ever been, both physically and mentally. Yet, as a veteran soldier who had fought on countless battlefields, he understood a fundamental truth: never linger on the battlefield after defeat.

This was the territory of the victors; the defeated had no right to linger. To remain on the battlefield was to bid farewell to one's life.

For Blonsky, who had only just acquired such extraordinary power, he wasn't ready to say goodbye to his life. Without hesitation, he abandoned his warrior's pride and chose to flee. There was no shame in fleeing, especially when it was to save one's life. Terrified, Blonsky found a perfectly valid excuse for himself.

He now felt an overwhelming, visceral fear of the power Zhou Yi had displayed. And it was precisely this fear that led him to make his gravest mistake.

Since the subway entrance they had used was not far from the station, Blonsky quickly found his way to the station by following the tracks. The moment his monstrous, hulking form appeared on the platform, panic erupted.

At that time, Manhattan was at its peak rush hour, the entire station packed with bustling crowds. Among them were even refugees who had fled here to escape the giant disaster raging above.

Fear is contagious, especially when a being capable of terrifying everyone appears. The moment the crowd saw Blonsky, they scattered in panic. The fleeing masses irritated Blonsky, and a strange idea took root in his mind.

He remembered a battle he'd fought in Iraq. Cornered militants had taken a hostage, leaving an entire squad of soldiers helpless. He now found himself in a similar desperate situation. Under this mental pressure, he inexplicably grabbed an elderly woman and pinned her against his arm.

This was his hostage, his lifeline. After witnessing the Dawn Knight's speed, he'd lost all hope of escaping. But with a hostage, perhaps there was still a chance. This thought, however, didn't realize that this very idea was already sending him one foot into hell.

Zhou Yi valued thought over strength. Strength could be obtained through external means, but true understanding could only be achieved through one's own inner awakening.

Zhou Yi could respect someone like Magneto, even though he stood opposed to humanity. Magneto was a protector of Mutants, dedicating his entire life to their cause, fighting for their future. Though his ideas were extreme, naive, and even unrealistic, one couldn't deny his contributions, his efforts, his thoughts, and his awakening. Regardless of everything, he remained a worthy and respectable enemy.

As for Abomination, Zhou Yi had initially believed him to be a pure warrior, a worthy opponent. But the moment he saw Abomination holding hostages, that perception vanished. A true warrior wouldn't flee out of fear, nor would they compromise their dignity for mere survival.

Now, the Abomination had not only abandoned his dignity but was actively trampling it underfoot. After witnessing all that he had done, Zhou Yi could no longer consider him a worthy opponent. Such a person, with his base and contemptible mind, was unworthy of being his rival. They no longer deserved his respect, and the best end for such an enemy was to be reduced to ashes.

A black shadow flashed, and Zhou Yi's figure suddenly materialized before Blonsky. Though Zhou Yi was much shorter than Blonsky, the latter felt as though he were looking up at him. He knew this was an illusion born of his inner fear, yet he was completely unable to control this delusion.

So he could only suppress his fear with a hollow, blustering growl. Then, he abruptly placed his clawed hand on the old woman in his arms and shouted at Zhou Yi:

"Stay away from me, Dawn Knight. I don't want trouble. I just want to leave here safely."

"To leave here safely, then can you explain what's going on with the hostage you're holding?"

Zhou Yi sneered, slowly closing the distance to the man who had already lost all will to fight. The Abomination was now just a hollow title, utterly undeserved.

"Don't think I don't know what you're up to!"

The Abomination suddenly swung his arm, his razor-sharp claws tearing through the brick and tile along the subway platform. The terrifying display of destruction immediately elicited a terrified whimper from the old woman he was holding hostage. She began trembling uncontrollably, still dazed and confused about the situation.

"You want to capture me, lock me up in a lab with that green fatso. I'm telling you, that's never going to happen. I'd rather die than become some lab rat."

"Death? Do you really want to die?" Zhou Yi's mocking sneer reached Blonsky's ears, forcing him to swallow hard. Of course he didn't want to die; his earlier words had been nothing more than hollow bluster. Instead of answering directly, he suddenly tightened his grip on the old woman, eliciting a terrified scream from her.

"Look, I have a hostage here. If you don't want anything to happen to her, you'd best stand right there and not move. Otherwise, I can't guarantee what I'll do."

"So, you're threatening me. Trying to exchange this woman's safety for your own, is that it?" Zhou Yi's tone was cool and detached, showing neither the anger of someone being threatened nor the panic of someone whose hostage's life was in danger. It was like watching a clumsy performance, eliciting only a stiff and indifferent disregard.

*Doesn't he care about the hostage?* The thought flashed through Blonsky's mind, but he ruthlessly suppressed it. He refused to believe the Dawn Knight could be so indifferent to the lives of innocents. A man who would risk his own life for strangers, a man hailed as a hero by the world, could never possess such a mindset.

*He must be acting.* In an instant, Blonsky reached this conclusion in his mind. And that conclusion seemed to become the only straw he had left to cling to for survival.

As if he had staked everything on a gamble, Blonsky tightened his grip on the old woman in his arms and let out a desperate howl.

"I am threatening you. Dawn Knight, you're a hero. I don't believe you can stand by and watch an innocent person die in my hands. Let me go, or she dies with me."

His howls were clearly audible to the fleeing crowd around them. In that moment, nearly everyone present turned their attention to Zhou Yi, eager to see how the Dawn Knight would choose.

Did the lives of ordinary people truly hold value in the eyes of these heroes with extraordinary powers? This was a question of paramount importance. They wanted to observe the unfolding events and find the answer, but they wouldn't get the chance.

Time, that miraculous and elusive force, stole their opportunity to seek the answer. One moment Zhou Yi stood rooted to the spot; the next, they saw the Dawn Knight stride past the Abomination, long spear in hand.

The old woman had already been rescued, and Blonsky hadn't even noticed. It seemed he didn't know what had happened in that vanishing second. Only Zhou Yi could know the breathtaking brilliance of that lost moment.

He drew his weapon and severed Blonsky's arm with a single, effortless strike of his Adamantium Alloy blade. Then, he casually rescued the hostage. The entire process unfolded at a pace ordinary people could walk, yet for them, it remained invisible. Time had abandoned them, lavishing all its favor upon one man. This was the ultimate injustice, yet they weren't even allowed to know it. It was, in its own way, a cruel joke of fate.

When that anomalous second came to an end, Zhou Yi and Blonsky had already switched places. Zhou Yi and the old woman now stood behind Blonsky, who was still staring in the direction he had originally been facing.

He stood dazed, searching for his target, when a searing pain suddenly shot through him. His entire arm had fallen away, the severed edge so smooth it defied belief. The old woman he had been holding hostage had vanished without a trace. It was only then that Zhou Yi's voice reached him from behind:

"I think you threatened the wrong person!"
